What's next best thing to a 470 now?

I have a GTX 470, and am thinking of upgrading. If I was, what would be the equivalent, or something that bit better now?

If you have not already done it, overclock your gtx470 and you will be able to reach gtx480 speeds. As said above though next gen is your best bet.

Yeh, Anand, shows a healthy jump from 470 to 580 especially in Crysis and Metro, two games I play and respect as being hard on cards, quite surprised by that although I know the 470 oc's like a beast and can close that gap, pretty much, but then the 580 probably oc's as well. Its the price of the 580 in comparison thats the problem. Hopefully the next gen mid range will address that.:)

Yeah 580 has good overclocking to. However my pair of 470s with a decent overclock were only around 19-20% slower than a good overclocked pair of 580s in many benchmarks (and the pair cost less than a single 580).

The 470 will in 90+% of cases clock to stock GTX480 speeds and beyond putting it fairly close to a stock 580 - with water cooling its fairly trivial to get many of them to 900MHz which puts you about GTX580 speeds but then you have to balance the cost of watercooling against putting the money towards a 580.

I have to admit theres only like 2 games where I even bother running SLI atm, a single GTX470 with a mild overclock puts up perfectly smooth framerates with max settings in most games out at upto 1920x res.

Spend £40 on a Zalman cooler and overclock it. I run mine at 820mhz core 24/7 and it doesn't break a sweat. Very worth it in my opinion.
