In my seemingly never ending quest for a cooler i'm now wondering about the Antec 620. Is it worth £40? How noisy is it? Anything else for similar money that's better?

Thanks

Sounds much like the H50 from the videos I've looked at.

The pump makes a bit of a buzzing noise as it spins.

For £40 yeah it's worth it. Paid about £60 to get the H50 when it came out.

If you really need a compact ALC unit, then do it but if you can get an air cooler, you'd get much better performance with far less noise. The antec like all other such coolers is loud.

That video isn't loud and it's at full speed.

This is what my case sounds like and it has a H50 in there.

I wouldn't put money on it being worse than an air cooler, not in my case.

This cooler is definitely not loud!!!!

I have one and its completely silent!

If you add a second fan onto it in a push / pull configuration, it rivals both air and watercoolers that cost up to twice as much.

I have low profile ram so air coolers aren't a problem and i have no preference. I've been holding out for Silver Arrow but most people seem to think that you dont need to spend that much on a cooler to get 4.6ghz out of a 2500k.

There's too much freakin' choice.

I agree... I cant hear mine and its cooling on standard fan brilliantly

I recently bought one and it reduced my temps by 19°C under load from a Freezer 7, the pump is silent too. My Q6600 running at 3.6GHz hits just 60°C under load now, fantastic piece of kit for £40 :)

i have one of these coolers and their great! btw, not hijacking the thread or anything, but is there a way to add a second fan to the pump so both fans spin at the same speed ? and what fans ?? blue LED perferd

If you got a 3-pin y-splitter I'm sure that would work. I have 2 completely different fans on it currently, one off the pump the other on a molex connector :o I'll have a proper sort out next week tho :)

So I hope that people can now quit calling these great coolers noisy :D

I have used many coolers so my observations are not subjective. It's louder than most air coolers I've used. And if run in quiet mode, performance is poor relative to a lot of others coolers at the same price.

I had the Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120 on this previously and it was a noisy'ish beast to say the least..
Even though it cooled quite well I fancied a change and went for this Antec 620..
Best thing i've ever done..
Knocked 15oC of this 2500k.....

Im well happy with mine and I payed around the £35 for mine when it was on special and I cant hear it compared to the T120 UE...

I'de recommend this to any of my friends..

For christmas I'm getting a new motherboard/processor/ram setup and I'm looking into self contained watercoolers.

I started looking at the H50 but it seemed a bit cheap, I'd rather spend more to get lower temps.

The H80 and H100 look like the best option for me although I saw a review in this months PCFormat for an Antec Kuhler, about £80, they tested it against the H100 Corsair and said that it isn't as good as the Corsair, but then, thats why it's cheaper

so 620 is good enough compared to 920 or other mugen, noctua coolers?

Well I'm due one of these and some IC Diamond from ocuk as my order has been dipatched. Running a very hot i7 920 @ 3.8Ghz 1.3v getting to 95c on prime95 in a couple of minutes!

I've done 4.2 with this same chip at decent temps and 1.35 so it's probably a bad seating of my Noctua DH-12 in push pull. But at this price I think it's worth giving watercooling a try and I'll post much lower load temps in a couple of days i hope.
