How much should a plumber charge to....

Assuming it's as you say and a fairly straight swap then it's not even a couple of hours work so shouldn't be too much.

If you have some DIY skills at all you can do it yourself too. I did ours about 6 weeks back and it was easy. The only issue I had was a leaking toilet valve but that was a crack from the factory so was nothing to do with me.

Mine job even included cutting the cast iron pipe back to the wall since close coupled loos exit nearer the wall than the 20 odd year old one we had.

Yeah like above shouldnt be more than a few hours work depending on what they charge per hour. Also if you have already got the items you need then they can really charge you more for it. I know a plumber who charges like 15% addon costs for materials but these additions are quite common in the industry. There might be a bit of messing about if you system is old since they will change from imperial to metric but there are simple solutions to this so dont be fobbed off.

Cheers, I,m a tad apprehensive about doing it myself as I haven't got the kit etc ( proper tools fixings etc) and I'd need to research it to death lol, I was thinking like u guys that surely it shouldn't be more than a days work........ So was figuring 150 cash would be a fair price, one guy I asked said about 350!, no way, plumbers it seems can charge what they want.

should have told him the polish do it for 125 but you prefer to give your money to the english tradesmen :D

if you live in the sticks they will charge what they want.. 150 seems an ok price, for labour, he may have to buy new fittings unless you have them already?

Quote will depend on how much they feel they should be earning a day. Good plumber with his schedule full will want to earn 200-250 a day, to comfortably pull 45-50k a year excluding bigger jobs and 25% parts surcharge. Bad and greedy plumber will never have his schedule full, so he will try to compensate for the losses that week and charge you £350-400, thus two days work instead of one. Laugh his bottom off your premisses, as other says use the "local Pole will do it for £125, I don't mind paying double that to offer English tradesman some work in this economy, but not if you're going to try and rob me blind, you mug". If enough people repeat this to his face he'll understand there is no way dude with two month vocational training should be charging last minute y2k cobol programming contractor fees per day of simple work.

this would be a good way to **** someone off.. if someone said that to me, i wouldnt be coming back if they asked
then just hire the polish plumbers and let the british ones rip off old people who dont know any better.
