i recently built myself a new gaming pc and gave my brother my old one.
my old one consists of:
asus m2nsli deluxe
4gig ran
amd 64 x2 3000+
2 8800gts in sli

he wants to be able to play battlefield 3, now with that machine in the beta i got 40fps on low.
i was thinking he could put in
phenom x4 965 even though its an am3+ with a bios upgrade it will work on that mobo
560ti
would this be enough to run bf at medium/high? at 1650/1080

ive said he should splash out on a i5 and a better mobo/ram but he cant afford it at the min, but i was thinking if he buys the phenom x4 965 and a 560ti then in a few months he can buy a new mobo some ddr3 and a second 560ti and and have a pretty kick ass system.

any tips or reccomendations? any help is great.

Sounds like a good suggestion to me, I went for an x3 recently, cost me £50 odd and unlocked to 4 cores and runs happily at 3.8GHz. That phenom's probably a safer bet though as you're guaranteed the 4 cores...

Go for the 955 instead of the 965. It's a few quid cheaper and the only difference is 200MHz which can be attained easily on the 955 by increasing the multiplier by 1. Other than that, it sounds like a great plan if you're certain the board will support the chip. Also make sure that your PSU is up to powering the 125W quad core as well as a 560Ti. Same applies if you do decide to get a second 560Ti in the future. Best of luck!
