Recons are not supposed to get into the action. They are supposed to provide reconnaissance and only use their weapons when absolutely necessary. The recon kit in BF3 is a very useful asset to a team working together, just not to the guy who wants to get kills.

In BC2 recons were FAR more useful getting in the mix with the rest, than sitting back out of the way. Laying down sensor balls and c4 up close was much more helpful.

This and the fact it often takes an entire magazine of directly hitting a target before they die . . . its really ******* me off. I nailed a guy in the head which was just above cover, all I got was the hitmarker and his head jutting to one side but he carried on regardless.

Completely agree on this, to some extent it seems worse than BC2 for it's netcode / hitboxes / bulletreg / sloppy code. Nothing worse than emptying an entire magazine at someone only to have them stand there and laugh it off and then instigib you in return.

Never used a VOIP setup before and fancy a bit of co-ordinated actvity for a change lol!

Have got the mumble client installed now - what's the etiquette with the Mumble server? Pre-arrange a game or just jump on and join ?

True. But I'm sure that even in BC there are situations where a true recon who only provides intelligence would be more useful than an assault recon. Of course it depends on the layout of the map (good overwatch position) and whether the team communicates well. In BF3 however the recon has the ideal tool to be a tremendous asset with the MAV. In BF3 the recon has the best tools for being a recon and not an assaulter or supporter.

Getting royally ****ed off with running around the side of a wall and still getting shot only to die.

Seriously don't have a problem with anything else game wise, but it's really making me rage.

TFU are looking at getting a few scrims organised while waiting for a few of the ladders to start.

Anyone interested in some 8v8? Not set in stone, can adjust numbers if needed.

Email is in trust :)

True, but I can't help but feel the Recon gets kind of screwed if it just sits back and spots. You get a whole 10 points if someone kills who you've spotted. Maybe the odd 100 if you get to take a pot-shot at someone. So lets say you do really well and get 50 spot assists in a game and 5 kills of your own. That's a whole 1,000 points, which is pretty poor in contrast to what you could get otherwise.

Yes, cue the whole "you only care about points/KDR" argument. If you were in a clan match or in a league game where the overall victory matters most then yes, Recon should sit back and spot. But in a random game which gets forgotten quickly afterwards? Who isn't going to give a lot more weight to their own unlocks/awards/rank-ups over what'll help their team mates get kills?

In the attack chopper you've got to make sure it's equipped instead of optics and then right click. Can't imagine it'd be too different for the tanks.

Sure, there could be more points. And of course most people care more about their k/d ratio than about helping their team out. On top of that there mostly isn't any kind of communcation where the others would actually use your information. My point is that in BF3 a recon is ideally suited to be a true recon and that's fine with me. And if I play in a squad and take the recon kit I get a lot of pleasure out of directing my squad to success with the information I provide.

Hmmm, how infuriating is trying to sign up for Origin?

Create an account, "We found an account with your email address", ok I've no idea why but lets click "Forgot password".

Enter validation key from email, "invalid email account".

Still, at least its saving me £40 I guess.

how do you do thermal vision in tanks then? What key to press?

Need the Thermal Optics unlock, then equip it, then press right mouse button when driving to toggle it on/off.

Edit: Whoops, same as Art said last page... sorry had browser off screen a little and didn't see the post :)

Your EA ID (most likely your BFBC2 acc) was made into your EA Master account IIRC.

Perhaps when everybody is running around with thermal guns, thermal tanks, thermal choppers etc. they'll do something about thermal. To have anything else is just gimping yourself.

I've done that as well, but like you've mentioned, the game is relying more on good natured players who are willing to take one for the team on the points end of things. That's why it rarely happens on public servers with nothing much at stake.

I am enjoying the game but have a few questions/comments:

1)The graphics are good but my 6950 2gb plays it all maxed out at 1920x1200 easily (despite the massive talk on uber graphics before the game was released). I thought people were pleasuring themselves over BF3 graphics before it came out. They are certainly good but nothing to ooo and ahh at.

2) Why are some people rank 45 already?! I am rank 46 on BC2 and it took me 350+ hours to get there! If I wanted to get to top rank on BF2 I would need to play it forever! I have a feeling that in 1-2 months everyone will be level 50.

3) It crashes to desktop quite often, but I did lose my overclock and redid it a few days ago so I could have set the cpu voltage a touch low.

4) Any way in making the chat window smaller? I have heard you can get rid of it but I don't want to.

5) The map is either too small to use or too big and in the way. Any way of fixing this?

Thanks :).

True. That's why I mostly don't play recon. The spawn beacon is useful on maps like Metro and Damavand Peak where it will be used often. But other than that the recon is mostly a class for teamplayers playing in a real team.
