I wouldn't brake, too many people do and it just makes things worse.

Neither would I, foot off gas until the car comes down to a safer speed suitable to the conditions, keeping a close eye on the road lines so as not to drift across lanes.
Stupid to do anything else IMO
i don't see how you can say that, ''an emulsion of fog'' like driving blind, you wouldn't know where you are going or how long it was going to last. i'd put money on you hitting the brake pedal out of fear, because that is what you would be feeling.
If 50 people said it happened, they were there, would you ignore them?
the fog caused people to react and because we arent robots, people react in different ways and i say, that is no fault of theirs..
some people have said, drive to the conditions, if its foggy slow down, the condition was, the road was fine, so 60 to 70 would have been fine, an eye witness said the fog descended from above, so obviously then you drive to the conditions and slow down but people obviously slow at different rates and if you are blind to the cars in front of you, you're going to hit them..
What I dont understand is even if they prove or show that smoke or fog had occurred on the M5 how does this suddenly cause a 52 vehicle pile up.
It can only prove that someone could not drive in adverse conditions and panicked or made a rash judgement.

anyone see the motoGP today, easy how 1 person can cause the rest to crash through no fault of the others..
