Battlefield 3 thread - Server details in opening post -

I don't think I like this.

I stopped playing BF2 a couple of years ago just after my K/D ratio went positive. I'd got pretty good at it an was often hitting scores of 100 in a round.

I just picked up BF3 and played through the campaign to get used to the controls, seems that's not a good way to learn the controls as you're often not in control, I couldn't tell what was on rails and what wasn't. An the less said about the "fighting" the better, it's just looking for queues and pressing the button it tells you to, how boring..!

With that out the way I jumped into a server and played a few games, they're really short , is that just the server I picked. Coming from being quite good at BF2 I expected not to feel like a complete n00b but I think I did better as an actual n00b in BF2, I've not got a single kill yet.

Does it get better once you're used to it?

When Battlefield 3 works properly it is very very good, but unfortunately far too often annoying things happen that really ruin the game for me, so here's my rant, I don't really expect anyone here to agree with me but I bought the game so at least I'm entitled to a rant

A couple of things I really hate about BF3 :-

1. The lag. no matter how good the server that I am playing on is or how good my ping is sometimes I just hit a brick wall, and lag hits hard, I climbed a ladder 3 times just now and each time the game warped me back to the bottom and even round the corner from it once, It seems to happen to everyone at some point but never everyone on the same server (rules out server problems) I hope they get this patched

The lag does seem a lot better to be honest of late, some servers are better than others. Try 32 player, the whole experience is much better.

2. Unlocks. I have played probably around 90% of the decent modern FPS multiplayer games and none have ever felt as unfair starting off as BF3 does, Starting with 1 assault rifle or shotgun as assault? Really? I rarely use shotguns and the assault rifle doesn't suit my play style at all but I'm stuck with it for the first couple of hours at least,

Unlocks are utter arse, but the starting weapons are decent and it doesn't take long to move up. The IR scope is utter arse though....

3. Unusual recoil. I know people will go crazy about how it's super realistic and everything but it is stupid, I have played BFBC2, CS and DOD quite regularly all which aim for realistic recoil and none of them act anything like the guns on BF3, it drives me crazy, I can fire a few good controlled bursts towards an enemy with that terrible assault rifle then he turns round and pops a couple of pistol shots at me and down I go, wtf?

None of the games you mention really do realistic recoil, DoD used to back in the day, but it's just a cone of fire nowadays. I don't find it too bad in this, the M60 is hilarious!

4. People can shoot around corners. I was on one of the city maps, and there were corridors and shops/houses with a river in the middle, I got hit once so ran into a doorway where I was completely in cover but i got hit twice more, When it panned to the guy after that he was lying on the floor round the corner, there is no way he could have hit me

I do get this a lot, someone on here said hit detection is client side, which if true.... bugger.

5, No kill cams. I know this is personal preference so I'm not going to moan about this, but I would like the option

You don't want killcams or you haven't seen them? Personally I don't like 'em. Hardcore servers is where it's at

Can't say I've had too many issues. Every time I start the game for the first time I get 'BF3 has stopped responding' and I close it. I've found if you have Teamspeak 3 I need to close 'ihook.exe' or 'installhook.exe*32' to launch the game. Once I've done that TS3 still works and the game loads. Haven't had a disconnect for a while either.

Some rage moments (when aren't there in any game?) also some good team moments as well.

I play on the AVF server mainly and have little to no lag either.

I was on the other end of one of these encounters with you, I think, on Firestorm. It was a bit of a shock to me too, as I was sure I'd had it when I ran round the corner and had 2 guns pointed at me, but like you say, the connection must have favoured me this time. Had plenty of those WTF moments myself, where it feels like you've landed 10+ bullets, and you get dropped in 2.

Seems to be quite a few cheaters on now, had 1 who when ppl accused him, didnt even try and denying it and when it was said he was reported and would likely be banned he just laughed.

I had my first real go on BF3 last night, about 3hrs worth and OMG, it's amazing!! It totally feels like a BF2 sequel to me, which is great cos I had many doubts after playing the BETA! Also there must have been something f'ed up when i played BETA cos the graphics looked shocking, but now running all ultra it looked fantastic. The only graphics i thought were a bit lacking are trees, grass and shrubs, especially the dodgy tree swaying.

I think this game will hold my attention for a v long time especially if Karkand maps are the same as BF2. They could do with sorting some things out like squad management (why the hell cant i pick a squad?!), health regen (its crazy, regen up to 50% would be acceptable but up to 100% in a matter of seconds seriously, medics have become pointless), widening conquest capture points, chat box position. I was quite pleasantly suprised by a number of things including that destruction wasnt as dumbed down as i expected, still prefer c4 in BC2 but hey cant have everything, and the little scout chopper was awesome if a little slow. Was amazed (but probably shouldnt be) that I didnt get revived even once or see any med packs in the whole time!!

I got my joystick (Cyborg Evo) to work after remapping all the controls but still cant map mouse (mx518) buttons 3, 4 and 5 to anything unless i give them key assignments using Logitech Setpoint and run off the keybinds not mouse ones (which is then annoying for web-browsing as setpoint doesnt allow profiles).

The sounds and graphics made it so immersive I was having a hard time concentrating on what was going on VOIP!

EDIT: May have found a fix for the mouse bindings not being recognised, can someone check it - if Mouse Raw Input is not enabled it doesnt recognise the buttons! Can anyone explain what it is, i have used it turned off so far and mouse seemed fine.

all this nade and rocket spamming only seems to happen for me on 64 man servers, as a result i only 24 or 32. im sorry you can have a map the size of russia but when you only have 2 mcoms you will get bottle necks and spamming.

My advise for those who are sick of spam and camp is to try a smaller server, you live longer and enjoy it more in my humble view!

Why don't people who can't fly learn on an empty server, just got killed three times on [TFU ] CONQUEST | UK | NORMAL | OCUK | by people desperate to get the chopper! James_sasso threatened to ban me for commenting, so going to avoid that server if that's the attitude.

Going back to Bonken to avoid the power trip admins of the TFU servers

So in other words, you were hurling abuse at other players on the server? Gosh i cant think why our admin would have told you to stop... Yet another example of how our admin keep on top of things.

As i said guys there are plenty of other good servers to play on, we keep our servers clean, hack free and abuse free.... cheers.

i've not heard of this on my server, R8 Server was utter crap most companies moved back to R7 but some are still using R8. Maybe try my server or others from TFU. I also think Broken are using R7.

youll unlock new ones in 20-30 minutes of play tbh.

i know what you mean sometimes i find bursts are much much better.

CLIENTSIDE - its going to happen, though once servers get a PING kick assit it will drop, im sure some people have stupid high ping which causes this more.

you can find servers with it off, its not to hard with the lastest battlelog
