Bulldozer build

i wouldnt go bulldozer. for gaming terms it goes i5 2500k > i3 2100 > phenom II X4 > bulldozer FX-8150
(bulldozer and the phenom II X4 are about equal, but i put the phenom ahead because of the cost)

price wise it really depends what your after. if you want a gaming rig that will happily play the majority of games at middling settings your looking at £400 for the case and the bits inside, but if you want PC capable of maxing out every game out there with Nvidia 3D surround your looking closer to £2500 for the case + internals, and more if you want watercooling with it.

if you give us a budget, and what parts your looking to buy we can give you a hand.
if its a lower end budget (and your current PC isnt incredibly old) then it would also help if you tell us what your current parts are because then we could tell you if theres anything worth recycling for the budget your looking at. This can be done with a combination of a program called CPU-Z and a 30 second look inside of your PC.

info from CPU-z:
processor, motherboard and graphics card make and model
ram type (DDR1, 2 or 3) and size

info from looking inside the case:
if your DVD drive and hard drive are sata (small flat cable) or IDE (massive ribbon cable)
power supply make + model
case make/model

Guys thanks for the reply, my budget is only around £800. Reason I'm considering bulldozer is beacuse it's new arch (= future proof ?) so I guess amd would stick with it and release bd2 on the same socket (?) I hate chainging socket all the time, cost me so much to re invest in everything...

edit: probably a complete new build, excluding monitor, mouse, speakers etc... really want it to be future proof (wishful thinking I know :( )

ok, if your looking at £800 then all i'd want to know is if the hard drive (and possibly DVD drive) are SATA or IDE.

socket 1155 (the i5 2500k socket) will work with intels next generation of processors, ivybridge. unless the AMD piledriver turns out to be truly amazing i really doubt they will be able to beat intel on the AM3+ socket (the most recent socket they currently have).

hopefully this will show you the extent that AMD are being beaten:
i5 2500k vs AMD bulldozer FX 8150: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/434?vs=288

the FPS scores are the ones your interested in.

The 2500K is the best gaming chip anyway. It hasn't seemed to bottleneck any games I've seen so far, so gaming wise thanks to it's efficient architecture and high clocks it should last for a good 3-5 years.

Do you also need a copy of Windows?

I would also recommend using any old SATA HDDs if possible as HDD prices are silly high due to the flooding in Thailand.
