Hi I am in the market for an A/V receiver and am looking for suggestions. Have a budget of £200.

I already have 4 speakers so I was hoping to just hook these up to the receiver to give me a 2 x front and 2 x rear surround system.

I was looking at the Onkyo TXSR309 - is this any good?

I got a 605 off AV Forums for £95. So definitely have a look for something second hand!

Cheers I'll keep an eye out for something second hand and see if I can grab a bargain.

Am I generally ok to add any kind of speakers to A/V receivers for use in a surround set-up? I don't really have a clue about them as this will be the first time I've bought one. I won't be using a sub-woofer as I don't think my downstairs neighbours will appreciate their ceiling rattling.

A 606 went for about £100 last week so you can easy get a bargain and some good speakers too, all within your budget.

Depending on limitations of room etc buy your speakers wisely. You don't have to get all speakers in one go, in the long run it's better to buy two then another two when you can then a centre etc etc. Proby best to go for a make and range that was widely used so you don't struggle to find matching colours etc.

I got a pair of Mordaunt Short 902's and a 905 off avforums for £90 a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah I've already got 4 speakers from my old hi-fi system I was hoping to use in the mean-time while I save up some cash. 2 of them aren't the best and are the wrong colour so will def be getting replaced at some point.
