Best Buy closing all UK shops

I'm lucky I didn't get a job at the hayes branch since I'd be majorly hacked off if I found out on the news that I'd be losing my job.

Hope there is a massive closing down sale, need some new speakers.....

More like opened up during one of the worst periods in recent history for most retailers.

How is that not underestimating the UK market? The credit crunch is not exactly new information. They had nothing new to offer an already cut throat British market place.

have a read: http://www.mobiletoday.co.uk/News/11862/Best_Buy__How_the_mighty_fall.aspx

"Analysts say Best Buy would be wrong to place the blame entirely on the economic downturn. They argue that this is a classic case of ‘pride before a fall’ as Best Buy US seriously underestimated the European market, leading a badly timed and poorly planned assault on the UK and following up with far too much micro-management.
"

If they had opened up 10 years ago they would be doing just fine and making money.

Of course they would. 10 years ago the www was far less of a force to be reckoned with hence higher margins on the high steet.

I dont get why new businesses try to compete in the electronics retail sector anymore in the UK. Hardly no one wants to get their games anywhere from other than Game. People who have a clue buy computer stuff online, people who dont go to PC world. The mobile phone sector has been over saturated for long enough, and buying phones directly from the network provider is always the best choice.

With anything else, you cant touch Tesco / Asda / Sainsburys / Morrisons. There is no room, or demand for new retail compainies in the UK - They will all have terrible customer service compared to Tesco, and higher prices due to lower purchasing power.

So just what are they going to do with their stock? Does anyone thiNk we might see one day where they cut the prices or is that unrealistic?

Well considering the difference in voltage between North America and Europe, chances are they will probably try to sell it at discounted prices... hopefully.

I can't say I'm surprised thou, even places like the DSG group have been doing so bad and they are already a familiar brand, no way this company with only 10 stores could compete.

By the way, I know for a fact Curry's employees aren't on commission which is why I'm not bothered if they don't try to sell me anything, who complains about that any way? When I go into a store usually the last thing I want to do is speak to any staff member.

England is one of the most competitive retail markets in the world, no big surprise they failed.

In other news, Tescos venture in the states is starting to come up trumps
