I am watching the BBC News before I go to work. They just had a report about the night sky and displayed a picture of the Earth at night. This exact pic:
All is well and good until they seemed to feel the need to say (and I quote as closely as possible)
Really?!? We need to dumb down news programmes to actually TELL people where places like Japan, America and Europe are on a picture of the Earth?
Granted, individual countries might be difficult at times but surely people know the layout of the main continents?

This is the Earth at night. Japan to the right, America to the left and Europe in the middle

I thought having the US in the middle was daft as then most of the map was taken up by oceans, with the other (less important, obviously) countries squeezed up on either side!
