Do you still get paper bank statements? If you take one of those in with you too, with the ID, they should do it. Not sure about Halifax, but Co-Op do if you have proper ID, do you not have a passport or a driving license?

Yes, you can deposit into any account as long as you go into the target bank with the name, account no. and sort code. I used to do that when I had to deposit into friends accounts. Shhh...

Of course, how do you think people put money into accounts before the days when photo IDs and Debit cards were common.

Fill out a deposit slip, give it and money to the cashier, get receipt, job done.

Funnily enough I used to bank with Halifax a few years ago. I was asked once for ID when I wanted to lodge money to my bank account. The conversation went like this :

Me : Hello I would like to lodge some money to my account.
Halifax : Do you have any ID on you?
Me : No, do I need any ID?
Halifax : No
Me : OK, well then can I just lodge the money.
Halifax : Yes

As far as I know there isn't any bank in the land who needs ID to make a lodgement - you can even make a lodgement to someone else's account! Some staff at bank cash desks can be over enthusiastic though.

No bank requires you to provide ID to pay money in, you simply walk in fill in a deposit slip with the account details and hand that and the money to the cashier.

They will even give you a receipt for it :)
