Tempted to take 3 months off and go travelling!

whilst this can happen, i would say it is much rarer than imagined

same for motor bikes, quad bikes, mopeds.

there are a few horror stories but most are perfectly fine.

mopeds are much easier to check and spot for any damage before you get on it.

A jet ski is usually in the water already and hiding what damage is already there.

Just letting people know some do try and scam /just saying

Man I want to go travelling again now.

i remember that feeling myself :) the pre travel sort out

exciting !

it is so exciting!! turns out my ex is landing there 4 days before me.... uhoh! and 3 guys from work are going out doing the same, one 2 days after me, one in january sometime and the other one when he get around to it lol

I was going to do this last year but I spent 2 months in asia instead
http://www.thegreatescapade.com/

that looks like one hell of a challenge lol

i understand, and it is good to be aware of possible scams, i just wouldnt let it stop you from doing something

and me too, would love to pack up and head off

Still paying off the debts from the last trips dude.

I came back from the 19 month trip with £5k of credit card debt. Paid off a load then won that trip to South America but still had to pay for flights (£800) and spending money (£1000). Kind of put me back to square one for a while.

Only £1800 left to pay off then it'll be save save save for a return trip to NZ via SE Asia

I agree, the first week in Thailand I got pretty much rinsed for all the simple scams...tuk tuk rides to temples in return for suit shopping etc etc. Just good to be aware of them and know how to handle when things crop up. By the 3rd time I had been I was giving out the advice to all the new travellers hehe. That's how cool travelling is, you begin as a total noob, then after a while of travelling and talking to people you become the jedi not the padawan hahaha

Stinky you're going to love it.

there is light at the end of the tunnel then!

i will have to start a blog style thread and whenever i happen to have internet ill update it make you all very jealous :p

i do appreciate all the little types. hopefully i wont get rinsed when i arrive then :p although im sure il still fall for most of it :(

haha you'll be ok, some of it is quiet funny how obvious it is.

Definitely make a blog or diary. I started too when I started but it got to points where I wasn't and I never realised at first I'd be away for so long. I never continued it.

Would have made for an amazing biography when I am old. I just have to rely on my flakey memory but luckily I have thousands of photos to remind me of the good times.

I've just about bought a camera for the job :D along with 32gb sd card! And a 1tb external hdd going with me to back up onto! Plan on lots of pics. :) and blogging for sure! My best mates sisters blog is good she's there now!

Little update then!

Jabs done yesterday, and my bank card is on the way!! still not had my ticket come though (should be today at some point!)

just been looking at The Gibbon Experience. OMGWOWWTF amazing!! might have to take that one

In Thailand or Laos ?? We wanted to do the one in Laos but when we crossed the border in Houayxai we had no idea how to get there so did the slowboat down the Mekong which meant we missed the place they did it in Laos.

im thinking of taking the slow boat to! sounds lovely! :) got talking to a few people on travbuddy.com so got a few people to hopefully meet up with now :)

Well if you do the slow boat you might have to then make your way back to the gibbon place as it's not anywhere near and you don't get off the slow boat until you reach luang prabang.

You dont get tickets these days - you get an eTicket which you don't even need to present. All you need is the eticket number for when you check in.

Well, not with most airlines anyway :p

Right so I fly from terminal 3 at 21:20 so will prob go up that day (9th)

Fox - Tiverton to terminal 3 £45 where did you find it cheaper!?

I looked at that on trainline, as one booking!

£27 Advance Single Tiverton Parkway to London Paddington, 12:09 from Tiverton Parkway. Gets to Paddington 14:44. Then take the 14:57 Heathrow Connect (NOT EXPRESS) train to Terminal 3, takes 25 minutes and costs £8.50.

Total cost £35.50.

Gets you there for 15:25.

You can NEVER be too early for a long haul flight if you are travelling up same day. Don't cut it any finer than this, it only takes a broken down train or some sort of issue and you can miss the flight!
