The Masked Guitarist

By the looks of it its standard tuning and droning and playing lead while still strumming.

It has a unique quality to me.

He is basically doing She Sells Sanctuary with not as many notes and like a complete beginner.

If you want strumming and lead playing at the same time try Mick Green from The Pirates or Wilko Johnson from Dr Feelgood.

I don't understand why you want to know because you have an excellent taste in guitarists and this guy is playing like he's just had his first lesson.

Are you some sort of musical prodigy. If I could play like that after a year I would be massively happy.

The guy in the video has style regardless of technical abilty...Hes not as bad as everyone makes out.

For example his right hand rhythm technique is quite advanced and not easy to copy

How weird -
Gagsmedia (Masked Guitarist) has a dog called Zappa and so does Easyrider.
I also believe the Masked Guitarist has a Martin OM-18V and guess what Easyrider has got?

Its one of my students!

He wanted some feedback on his playing without his mates at college dissing that it was him.

You have been cruel and knocked his confidence :(

I run guitar lessons and I promised him a go on my guitar.

I think he's got great style and doesn't sound like a typical learner

Ok, just saw this thread, read the comments then saw the video.

Errr, what was bad about that!? I thought it was a good melodic piece, I liked the note choice and the droning. If you asked me, I would say that to truly shine you need some singing in there - there were bits that would sound great with vocals.

Good solid guitar playing there.

You can never take any criticism on here seriously. I recently asked for some help with a tab and was told it was clearly an easy sliding lick, when (without meaning to sound arrogant) the most nooby of noobs could identify that it was tapping and that to play it in that way was a very silly way to play it!

I posted it on another musician forum and they, like you, like the droning and simplicity of it.

I wouldn't even call it 'simple' as I feel that undermines the guys skill, if anything it could be called relatively untechnical. I didn't even think about how technical it was when I listened in the first place.

Yeah, good IMO :)

After seeing you play I thought it might be you messing about but now you say it's a beginner it makes sense.
If it is a beginner then his confidence shouldn't be knocked because it is excellent for a beginner BUT NOT IF IT IS YOU.

In laymans terms:
The other week I walked into the house and heard somebody playing Wonderwall on my acoustic and to say it sounded rough was an understatement.
I then walked into the living room and it was my 10 year old nephew who had worked it out himself and it was the best thing I'd heard in my life.

You're a cool guy dude:cool:

My thoughts exactly..There are to many Textbook guitar players around

Very average playing (ok for a beginner) but the song is average too.

"Droning" is not something I would ever describe as a plus point to a piece of music, and for people to use it as one of the ONLY positive comments, well that's not great.

There isn't anything here that crap singer-songwriters haven't all done before so I can't bring myself to be positive just to be nice.

Sorry!

The syncopated rhythm on the right hand is very nice..

Its not a song he made it up on the spot...This guy has lots and lots of potential imo.
