What do you think?
I think it is a really good idea as it gives an incentive to do what they propose instead of just saying things to get votes. Switzerland already have this system, they can also call for a referendum.
Some people have a fundamental fear of Direct Democracy as they believe the public are genuinely stupid, but I think that in moderation it can be a very good force.

Yes, but it will never happen. It would be like a revolving door with the thieving corrupt scumbags getting kicked out all the time!

I wish, direct democracy is the only democracy dawg.

But never in this country, not in the foreseeable future. We couldn't even give AV a chance, let alone this.

We fear change.

Depends how it was implemented but yeah it would be good.

As for direct democracy, no thanks. Direct Democracy is not the all singing great messiah people think it is.
Public do not have the info or the time needed. Saying that I think politicians should be politicians and politicians only, with training and meet certain standards.

The way things are going, Policies in the UK will be decided via 'Likes' and 'Dislikes' on ****ing Facebook with an X-Factor Style Election every 4 Years. The World is so broken. :(

Direct Democracy == Mob Rule.

No ta.
It would be no different to now :P
I am not suggesting a full direct democracy but a scaled down one similar to Switzerland.
I have not given much though to the idea of Referendums, I guess it could work but I think the criteria for signatures should be quite high to make sure it's only the really controversial issues.

But would politics be full of thieving corrupt scumbags in the first place if there was no way for them to last more than five minutes?

You mean that we have some kind of dance off presented by brucy and then we vote to kick one politician out?

I think Guy Fawkes was on the right lines, certainly in his day. The fact is that it's a constitutional problem, and the first bright spark who sticks his head up and says it needs to be tackled from the bottom up, will likely get it shot off.
