Steam Hacked, Valve Investigating Possible Credit Card Theft

steam guard + gmail two-factor authentication helps against these kinds of things a great deal. Apart from id theft, i'm not fussed with them having my credit card detail. Its the reason i use a credit card instead of direct debt, if i see something I dont recognise on my bill, i phone my bank and get the charges off.

Thinking of falidation and steamguard etc, are we protected as far as that goes, but they made the little mistake of leaving cc data accessible?
So they cant steal our account or games but instead get your identity and your card details?

with a direct debt u still can i think?

They've been sitting on this for the last couple of days, not impressed.

Still, even if they do get my password for my account, it's not really a big deal provided that Steam Guard itself hasn't been compromised.

I have a seperate account i use with online stuff. Money only goes into it when i know it needs to. So if it got attacked it would be the banks money and not mine.

I've only ever used paypal for steam then removed it, as for credit cards can't remember. Was awhile ago now

Yeah, by the time they decrypt the salted/hashed CC database the cards will have expired anyway so no big deal there.

No? Steam guard is the thing keeping the Steam passwords safe...

People aren't getting the difference between the Steam forums and Steam itself. The forums have a completely different system.

The clue is in the statement, about watching your bank account closely, would you think they would say that if everything was hunky dory?

I think I've used my debit card before on Steam. :<

Well its obviously not hunky dory, it got hacked. But they are just saying it as a precaution, it will take whoever has it ages to get through the salting and hashing.

Will they still have your details if you bought a steam game from a 3rd party company i.e GMG and all you did over steam was insert the key?
