I've got a lot of photo's of my daughter etc, I looking to prehaps uploading them all to photobucket.... is this a wise idea? i noticed they have privacy settings which will mean they will be on visable to me?

Good idea or do you guys know another way?

It's not really a good idea because often they will be deleted by the image hosting site.
I would recommend putting them on some kind of other media, such as a pen drive. Cloud is just as worse, quite easy to forget password in many years time.

Saving them as in back up?
I tend to sync on to three separate HDD. Main pc, 2nd HDD in main pc and to HTPC. I've also got a Dropbox account, but it's a bit redudent now. With google documents, skydrive(hotmail/live) and ICloud services.

Your unlikely to forget email login details or for it to be deleted from such a service.

Stick the whole lot on three different hard drives and use a simple script/tool to keep them in sync. They are cheap enough and large enough to avoid the hassles of burning DVDs and quicker to update. Keep one of the drives offsite and having three drives allows you to have a backup in place even if one fails and you are waiting for a replacement.

you have a website save there aswell ;)

if important would save numerous places usb drive , removable hard drive , any back up device

I can't believe the amount of people I talk to that think DVD is a suitable backup medium. :( I tend to use an external HDD and 2 USB drives. For stuff that's critical, I mail it to myself at work so I can retrieve it from Enterprise Vault. :p

You generally tend to give photo sharing sites rights to use the images as they see fit, they could choose an image from your collection for an advertisement campaign and there wouldn't be much you could do about it.

Placing family photos on the net is a recipe for disaster.

As has been said, get an external USB drive, backup to that, unplug it and keep it safe.

I also have a lot of very important pictures of my family, after I lost the photos of my honeymoon (no not naughty ones) I have been paranoid about losing all my photos of my family, I backup to a nas drive which is set with 2 hdds in RAID 1, this is synced to my photo library on my main computer daily then It incramentally backs up offsite to www.livedrive.com which I pay £3 a month for but that is unlimited storage, currently running at 260gb, initially took ages to upload but I don't even notice the incremental uploads.

Either pay for some decent cloud storage.

Or copy to two other hard drives and keep one at a relative's.

Or both.

PS it is Photos not Photo's.

I have a copy on my PC and a copy on my media server. I keep meaning to stick a copy on a drive and give it to my dad but since I don't yet have anything that I'd be massively upset if I lost I'm not forced into it. I might finally sort it this weekend as it happens!

Once we have sprogs there are going to be copies everywhere!

I don't see the point of internet options personally. Stick it on a HDD and give it to someone you trust.

I have everything on my windows home server and I take a weekly backup to an external drive which lives in my desk draw at work. Offsite is essential for me as the contents of my photos folder is one of the few things I own that is truly irreplaceable.
