Battlefield 3 tips & tricks

IR is stupidly good on a sv98 with straight pull on hardcore.

I love the IR on my AK74u at the moment (only gun i can get it on!). Was funny on Tehran Highway. Took point B and stuck it on only to find 3 people camping in a building behind me (prone style).. They didnt know what hit them

Do not use ECM jammer, it is far less effective than Chaff imo. Bounce TV missiles off the ground infront of targets to kill them (or 90% damage) in a single shot. Don't use INRV, it will only make you reliant on it and worse at the game when they nerf it (fingers crossed) :D

this will disable windows aero when you open the game and frees up vram
most web browsers are GPU accelerated these days so obviously use some video card memory.

alt+tabbing and closing firefox after launching the game and connecting to a server frees up around 100mb of memory for me

You can turn that off in Firefox, Tools > Options > Advanced > Untick Use Hardware Acceleration. I turned it off a while ago due to the amount of TDR's with Nvidia drivers of late, haven't had one since.

My tip... (for what it's worth)

Play at night, two in the morning onwards. Not ideal for some admittedly but i find the "class" of player better and by that i mean no cheating whining kids.
I swear to god a lot of the little cherubs are using wall hacks as they seem to know exactly where i am but playing at night virtually all my deaths are seen to be legit.

Oh..and less lag too as it is not as busy.

the 16 player servers are best for leveling up aswell and people actually work together... feels a lot more like the old bf games the maps just arent big enough for 32-64players imo

That would be the game's inbuilt wall hack, otherwise known as the IRNV scope. I had my first real run in with this last night on Grand Bazaar. Up until that point I'd not really noticed people using it that much the game, but this was the first time literally everyone except me was using it. I didn't rage quit so as much as "**** this for a game of soldiers" quit. Hopefully this will recieve the mother of all nerfs as ultimately everyone will be forced to use this scope on close quarter maps, so the game may as well have not bothered with the fantastic graphics it has, may as well be cell shaded as that is what everyone will be looking at.

800x600 with all details at lowest is sadly the most effective way to gain an advantage at multiplayer FPS games, I prefer to play with all the graphics up but half the time I get killed by people before I can even see them.

is lowest res the way to go for infantry? at 1920x1080 i can barely make out soldiers that arent in my face :(

Getting fed up nobody using javelins / guided missiles when you use the soflam? fret no more......deploy the soflam in a safe place and aiming at a point of interest and jump in something that uses guided rockets or shells. Even if you die the soflam will remain till it's destoyed so you can even switch to engineer and use javelins yourself :D

The bigger problem is jav's do 35 dmg constant whereas the RPG does this as a minimum to the sides/back. It's use is questionable for most maps unless it's a super long engagement.

soflam helps with damage i think, always seem to get more kills when using it as the lock is better and you get a more direct hit, even more so in the jets with guided missiles.

also when you get a lock with javelin aim up high before firing,

Tip for DICE.....fix this ******.
I can't fly cos my keybinds don't work correctly, i've altered them and they still don't work correctly.
Until they sort the weapon/arty balance out....my tip is.....HIIIIIIDE !!!!

You are doing it wrong. ;)

My only tip is, turn off your CPU overclocks of you have them, especially AMD owners. Bizarre as it sounds, the game runs smoother and with a higher framerate when I go back to stock (3.4Ghz) from my 4Ghz oc.

And turning off Aero WORKS wonders. Best tip so far.

Parachute doesn’t work unless the drop is higher than a two-story building. If less you will receive fall damage.

Tanks take double damage from rear hits so aim there. Tank drivers under fire, position the front of your tank in the direction of the oncoming fire or move to try and dodge it.

Repair tool can also damage vehicles. Its slow but sometimes you can do enough damage to disable the tank as the driver is expecting damage in the form of incoming fire.

Recon radio beacon creates a spawn point which your team can use to spawn. Very useful but I don’t see if being used enough.

Engineer mines: very effective. Try and plant them in bottleneck areas and try and plant them near debris/rubble to make them blend in.

Before diving out of cover take a second to look around and hit ‘q’. This will let you spot enemies and make it easier to plan your attack.

Shotguns have the ability to gain scopes, while it doesn't help the range all that much the non zooms help with aiming the shot and the longer ones are great for recon (since you can fire from the hip)

Two Stingers fired at the same time seem to disable a chopper every time.

When playing Conquest and you are dead waiting to spawn, cycle around all the flags you have possession of. Look at the graphic of each flag and see if its moving up or down, this will tell you that something is happening at the flag, ie its being taken or was under attack, spawn at this flag.

Scopes are not always a good thing, even the reflex (Non zoom) scope. A scope can limit your view as opposed to ironsights.

Flashlights can blind the enemy but they can also blind your team mates (same with lasers), keep that in mind and try and keep your flashlight pointed below head height when near friendlies and stop shining it in my face! Press ‘t’ to turn it off.

Most vehicles have a turbo option ‘SHIFT’. Jets have afterburner and tanks/jeeps have turbo. This will allow you to travel much faster and there is no cooldown on it.

Tanks: Get the thermal vision. Use it.

I think only scopes above 6x zoom glint?

The second co-op mission is great for practicing flying attack choppers/manning the gunner's seat.

Alternative tip for learning to fly the chopper: Play on an empty server for BF2. The mechanics are almost identical. Only difference is that you have to invert the mouse in BF3, and I think the chopper is a tiny bit more sluggish in BF3. Jets are very similar too.

Recon have a piece of equipment called a T-ugs which is great to keep near a flag (out of sight) as it shows up most enemies, a great gadget.

Shout: "Enemy boat spotted" on maps with no boats. ;)
