new install of q6600 re temp

ok i just installed a new q6600 not over clocked

and as it happens i bench tested a e6852 yesterday

which temp stabalised at 70 c running prime95 for 30 mins

so today this new q6600 went straight up to 80 c and stabalised running prime95 for 30 mins

actual core temps

should i have been expecting this ??

what's your room temp?

looks pretty high if stock and with intel hsf.

what voltage is it running at?

ok room temp = 21 c

idle temp = 28c

Vcore = 1.17v
+12V =11.46v
AVcc =3.34v

and yes standard intell fan but small one not a big one like i got with my E6850 3ghz dual core

the box is quite primative with no hole in side to cool cpu

but it has a good out fan

You should really look into investing on a better case with good airflow, and a half decent CPU cooler- the £25 Gelid should do nicely.

I have my Q6600 overclocked to 3.6GHz on 1.5v vcore, and my max temp in prime (during the heatwave when room temp was around 27C) was only 68C max!

It must have not been making contact then. Glad you got it sorted.

Next time you reseat the heatsink, retract the black part of the leg (the bit that makes it click and stay) and press together the white plastic split end for a bit. That way it narrows the end so it goes through the motherboard hole without a fuss.

Alternatively if you can always install the heatsink when the motherboard isn't screwed into a case so you can check those legs have gone securely into the board.
