little rusty on ATI cards, help please

Evening gents, just after a little help with a new card, currently have a Nvidia gtx285 running on a Asus p7p55d-e with i5 cpu.
Think its on its way out so need to look for a replacement.
Been looking at the ATI cards and they seem to offer a lot more for the kinda price bracket I'm looking at, anywhere between £150-£230.
So suggestions please, I'm a real novice when it comes to comparing cards but it looks like a toss up between a 6850 or 6950?

6950 2GB all the way, can normally overclock to 6970 speeds, and if you get a 2nd hand reference card, you can also unlock the shaders, though they don't add too much to the speed. I have 2 reference 6950s and wouldn't swap them for anything except maybe 2 580s, but they're way too pricey.

Well looks like a 6950 for sure but which one offers the best around my price range? Any particular make more solid than others?

Yes, the 6950 with 'flex' technology is a good suggestion. I think at that price point I'd also go for that.
 
thanks for that, been reading about the flex tech but dont know if its something I would use as I would only ever use one monitor.
Might be paying for something that for 'me' is useless, is there another card where the money might be better spent in terms of the actual card spec? Or am I just going to the far end of a fart as usual?

AMD, new cards, not far off twice the performance at probably very similar prices, ie 7970 circa £300, 7950 circa £200, 7870 circa £150.

Probably some time between 6th december and very very early Jan...... at which point you'll be getting 70-80% more performance for your money.

The info on the new AMD cards is seemingly more secretive than the Israeli nuclear weapons programme! It is only a bit of computer kit :(
