i recently switched from 4gb (corsair xms3) to 8gb of crucial ballastix sport RAM. 2 sticks installed, now i have lost my overclock and i cant for the life of me get it back.

i was running at 3.7 with 1.45 on the vcore and 265 on the bus and the FF bios.

now my computer gets the automated POST failure due to overclocking warning from gigabyte with anything over 240~ish on the bus. the ram has been underclocked so as to make sure its not the ram.

and no matter what i shove into the bios it will simply not boot.

any ideas or help o'wise tweakers of OCUK? i would ideally love to get back to the 3.7 area instead of 3.3 which im sitting at now.

Reset BIOS to default? RAM voltage set correctly?

Also I have that board, when new it would do 300+ FSB but now won't boot past 255 odd. If your using high bus speed which I guess you are with a 1055 leave everything as close to stock as you can and up the FSB see if it's still capable.

yep, ram's at 1.5v (standard for the ballistix sport) and everything is now default apart from the bus being at 240, which is does on standard volts.

its just as soon as i nudge over that bus speed no matter what voltages i give it, it fails to boot to windows.

extra frustrating as it was running at 265 for a year before i added the new ram. its a very odd board.

~edit~
ah im inching up! got to 250 on the bus, boosted the vcore to 4.125 and nudged the NB as well, with a slight overclock on the ram at 830mhz. i might just aim for 3.6 and call it quits, 100mhz wont make too much difference and the ram should be able to take it.

edit 2
the ram is the problem. it auto's to 9T timings despite the SPD saying 10T and when you change the mode to manual it fails to post straight away even when you dont change anything, whilst prime fails on two cores after a few mins on blend but is fine on small ffts.

I have that board and processor at 250Mhz, I am at 1.375V (1.34 CPUz).

I went from 4 x 2Gb (two odd pairs Geil and OCZ gold) to 2 x 4Gb Kingston HyperX grey and it did seem that I needed a touch more volts on the memory with the Kingston. I am using 1.6V. Something to try, I am also on 1666 MHz memory.

I also went from Bios FA to FF and felt that it was a mistake. But I have stayed with it.

My max OC at 1.42V was 3.8GHz. I use 3.5GHz as a 24/7 overclock.

the problem is i cant set them manually, even if i just change the bios setting to manual but dont change any values it still fails to boot.

im considering moving to a beta bios but really dont want to as the one on the gigabyte website just seems to take two settings away. i may just try and get 3.5 stable with you're settings nkata

its certainly frustrating :) thanks for both of you're input btw.

Are the values actually set correctly though, just changing it to manual doesn't automatically set the values to what they should be for your RAM, you still need to change them aswell.
