The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

I only had a chance to play it for a little while last night. Really enjoying it so far. The level of detail on Ultra in amazing. The trail you take from the starting area to the first town was breathtaking. I spent 5 minutes just staring at the rushing waters of the river that ran alongside the path. Not got far through the story just yet. Also not really tried any of the crafting or skills. Just cooked up some rabbit meat with cooking skill. Rolled an Imperial warrior my first go, as I usually played an Imperial in Oblivion.

I tend to play melee classes. Heavy armour and 2 handers usually. Might try something a little different this time. Maybe a combination of melee and magic.

There's a lot of bloody walking/riding in this game isn't there?

and so much to see and explore on the way :D

How is the new Radiant AI? As bonkers as before? I do hope so!

Not at all - have have been really impressed with it, including the wildlife.

Putting performance issues to the side for the moment as i believe they will be fixed(though it is a tad annoying) I have just played for around an hour and done my first dungeon.

This game is truly epic, after so long waiting and so much hype(though not quite as much as i expected tbh) i have to say that I am very happy with it! The game looks absolutely gorgeous and there is not a single thing barring the perfomance and the UI(which i am sure i can get used to) that i would complain about. I love the animations such as finishing moves, the combat has much more feel to it than previous games, the new magic mechanisms are great, dual-wielding spells and swords is epic!.

The atmosphere seems excellent as well, and maybe the most impressive thing which i am sure many people will like is that it doesn't feel like it is holding your hand at all. So far the quests seem to occur very naturally in the sense that you are just told what to do and don't get big text bubbles popping up telling you exactly where to go etc(though there are still quest markers, which i don't mind at all, imagine the game without them:eek:) Very much a Morrowind feel as opposed to Oblivion tbh;)
A special mention for the sound as well, excellent soundtrack and great effects.

The Golden Claw quest was brilliant as well!

Sort out some drivers/patches whatever to give me a constant FPS and i will be even happier:D

Pretty much my thoughts too.

Can't get enough of this game - just gone up the mountain on the side quest, but could really use some traders nearby in the village below. Don't want to use fast travel, but might end up having to.

Just finished the golden claw quest. Away this weekend but got up a little early to put in an hour or two before I leave.

The first 30 minutes or so I was a little underwhelmed and really irritated by the UI, but since going through the first golden claw quest I've grown to be a bit more neutral about the UI and loving the game itself. The main thing that's annoying me is the left and right wielding using the opposite hand to what you'd expect. Right click an item to equip... put into left hand, but used with the right button. Okay....?!

Really surprised by how reasonable it's running too. I'm playing on an old cheap office Dell with an e7400 c2d (2.8 ghz) and 4GB Ram. Replaced it's original HD 3450 with a HD 6670 (1GB GDDR5) a few days ago to get it up to par to at least be able to play the game.

Very surprised that on generally high settings at 1920*1080 (but with draw distances increased, and AA down to 4x) that I'm sustaining ~30-35 FPS outdoors and 40-60FPS inside.

What do you do with multiple horses? I've got 3 now but my companion won't ride one.

I'm going to have to mod myself a house with stables :D.

I just swapped the button mapping because it sure as hell didn't make sense to me either!

Hmmm. It also annoys me that your companions don't seem to care what you do. I've picked up some bruiser dude who seems to have some honour through conversations I've had with him, and I'm going around killing, murdering, stealing etc. And he says things like "My, isn't that a lovely view?"

Any chance of a quick spec check on my current PC. Just wondering what sort of experience I'm going to get with a Q6600 at stock, 2GB RAM and a 4850 graphics card? I'm suspecting its upgrade time.

Just turn off sync and see the fps go up :)
I know an old GTX295 can do 60+fps outside and 110+ inside on Ultra settings.

I mean it's just the Oblivion engine tweaked with less graphics.

Vsync + Mouse Ini Tweaks + DXovverider = WIN

Read the mod thread people!

Not that I know of, but if you fast travel to your location they reappear.

(I know some people don't like fast travel but I use it on the odd occasion I've an escort quest or something).

I am using it at the moment to sell a load of my loot - in the area I am there is nothing nearby to sell anything :(

Put points in to weapons and magic. Like i said, my main skills will be one-handed and destruction magic, i was running around a dungeon earlier with a longsword in one hand and Fireball in the other:cool:

It does seem like the best way to play - my focus is heavy armour and dual wielding swords, but a spell and a sword does seem more useful in this game tbh.

Yay, I had my frame size for the map changed :)

Fortunately they hadnt made the frame yet as they were waiting for me to recieve the sample to confirm its what I want before they make it, so I had the dimensions changed to fit the map exactly (678x484mm). Once the sample arrives and I've checked it, I give them a call back and finalize the order and confirmation of the maps sizes.

I did give the map a very thorough check last night, and its definitely 678x484 (I was misreading it the first time as 688 for some odd reason, but its 2mm short of 68 cm), and I will check it all again after the wood sample arrives and confirm the order if it looks right (which it should).

Cant wait, hopefully the sample will be here on monday, and then the frame by the end of next week :)

Skyrim nearly broke my ankle! i saw the postman from my bedroom window with a package. I knew it was skyrim because of my xray vision. So i ran downstairs as soon as he was putting it through the door and i missed the last step and sprained my ankle :( bad start...

They have done an amazing job with the graphics engine. I dont even need to overclock my GTX 260 (special edition 216 pipe 625/1100/1348) to run this at 1920x1080 4xaa 8xaf and the sliders on 3/4. :)
