Call hotels direct. Does it have to be the Maldives? Many hotels, especially now not during school Hols will offer you a good deal if you explain what happened, are really nice and ask if they can offer you discount. Then book flights separately. Jade mountain in st lucia looks gorgeous. Also look at travel zoo - there are sometimes amazing properties on there. Do you have any connections who work in airline/travel? They could help.
At this point, I'd cancel it. You don't want a subpar honeymoon. you could even do a city break in Europe as an interim honeymoon just to get away so you don't have to wait til 2013.
As said above you only do it once so it might as well be perfect - I wouldn't accept what they're offering, you'll probably be less than pleased and regret it. Look around I'm sure you can find something to fit the budget and make you happy.
What was the original hotel? Also- if the hotel is still open, can't you work out a way of getting there? If its open there must be a way- contact the hotel??

Update - crisis resolved.
After what feels like hundreds of phone calls I called no joy with my operator and got a refund.
Managed to get a cracking deal through Kuoni for 2 weeks at a 5 star secluded place in Bali. Slightly more expensive, but happy non the less.

Re your holiday, I assume you mean you can't take more than 5 working days in a row i.e. a week, well 9 days inc the weekends either side in total, but you still get your full annual entitlement. Or are you a contractor.
