Motherboards woes... confused.com

Hmm. I swear some people are just overly unlucky lol. I will see how I go with the Asrock Extreme 4 when I get it.

There have been more pin issues (not just Asrock) and usually the thread gets deleted because it goes something like this,

OP - I got a new board and it dont work.

Us - Try customer support/send it back

OP - Done that, they charged me £25 for testing and sent it back saying the pins are bent, I honestly don't know how?

Us - Then you must have fitted it wrong.

OP - I have built zillions of PC's before I know I didn't do anything wrong or drop something in the socket.

Then after a bit of a moan at customer services/customer rights etc, it gets deleted and taken away.

I have just read some other threads about this. Seems a genuine issue. Wow. A bit shocked Asrock let them leave the factory like that. I will check mine when I get it straight away.

Another VERY happy Asrock Extreme 4 Gen 3 owner here, no issues, still on bios 1.0.
Runs 24/7 @ 4.6GHz 1.32v ;)

Can run @
4.8GHz 1.36v
4.9GHz 1.38v
5GHz 1.41v
Also have an Ocz Agility 3, never had any issues with that either :D

No major probs here with mine either.

Come on chaps - use some common sense - Bent pins happens and its the first thing I check both chips and motherboards for (not that I've ever got one (either) with bent pins!)

Its one of the reasons the motherboard manufacturers went off on when when Intel announced the onus would be placed on the motherboard for the pins - they knew they would have to deal with the returns!!

Bent pins happens

well I'll say it again, not according to the guy I spoke to. according to him all the customers lie about recieving it with bent pins and the ONLY way to damage the pins is to drop something in the socket or touch the pins.

well I guess we better go and tell everyone that's ever said they've recieved the board with bent/missing pins(specops(gigabyte x58 board) and ge3000 on here other than me, gen3000 twice as from what he said there was 1 bent pin in the sealed relacement asrock sent him) that they are BIG FAT LIARS.

oh I'm sorry I forgot I'm supposed to GET OVER IT as you so quaintly put it in the other thread.

So its not just an ASRock thing?. Sorry if I offended you mate, not my attention - it was a manly sort of jokey thing to say ;)

Its just that you make it out as if only ASRock have this problem - its a general LGA1155 motherboard issue. Pins could be bent when the manufacturers stick the plastic protective cover on for example aswell. I'm not calling anyone a liar - just saying poo happens - you were just unlucky mate.

I remember the discontent the motherboard manufacturers raised with intel about this - It puts the responsibility on the board to ensure pins are straight rather than the easier item which is the CPU. Intel are the ones to blame ;)

well shame I don't have the name of the guy I spoke to or his email etc, would have linked this thread to him ;)

he was adament that the pins are tested and what not before the boards are sent out so due to the protective cover there's NO way for them to be damaged before they get to the customer, only the customer is to blame for bending the pins. so basically he was calling anyone thats ever complained about the pins a liar.

I pretty certain he would say you're full of bs about tht, any thing to get out of replacing the board for me(and the others who are effected).

I'm wishing I'd bought the board from elsewhere, 1 place I buy from offers insurance for a few quids extra for this sort of thing for within 28days of purchase. tho the thing is it over 28days after I bought the board when I built the system, but then they didn't have the extreme7 for a few weeks after ocuk got it so I'd have had to order after my 3weeks away so I would have been within the 28 days.

need to learn to control my temptations as gooing to save £20-£30 on the extreme7 will end up costing me £70-£80 and thus close to £300 intotal.

Right, I got my brand new Asrock Extreme 4 and I want to check something with you guys. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I have to check. First of all it was not sealed if that makes a difference. It was in an anti static bag but not sealed. The pins are ALL bent. But I think they are meant to be? The two L shapes of pins around the middle part of the socket all point inwards towards the center at 45 degrees. They are all perfectly bent inline with each other about 45 degrees so I can only assume this is "normal" ? I thought that pins were simply straight up vertical? Which is right? I will draw a picture and upload later. Is this what people have been struggling with the same thing? Mine are all perfectly symetrical but not vertical. I have NOT put a CPU into the slot yet all I did was open it and have a look.

I am off to google. Is it worth making a new thread about this, seems a lot of people complain of bent pins on it. I need to know asap if I need to return this within 7 days distance selling regs.

I don't think I explained it very well and it is not something that can be photographed easily even with some ridiculous macro lens. I will draw a pic and upload later.

@ jaybee

You have your answer in the Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 thread.

Cheers uploaded a pic in that thread. Sorry to spam both threads just need to be sure. I have never ever overly analysed a socket like this and have also never had bent pin issues. I'm sure it's fine. :) I just had in my head that pins were totally vertical at 0 degrees.

Nah, they're all bent, but evenly bent.

If you have pins that are bent differently, so they stand out from the rest, people refer to them as "bent".
