Orange and blue in movie posters

Saw this article today. It's one of those things you see all the time but don't register. After reading this you will see it everywhere

Firstly they are complementary colours. Secondly, sky/water/night is blue, fire/explosions/the sun are orange. All pretty prominent natural features.
Not surprising thing is not surprising.

Blue/orange are at opposite ends of the colour spectrum therefore contrast against each other making posters stand out. I don't think thats the reason they are used tho as we would also see more red/green and yellow/purple

The tints are edited in by hand, actually. You realize we don't see that many orange/blue tint in real life? Just look outside the window.
