Hey everyone. I'm new to building my own high spec and performance pc. Have some knowledge and been researching aswel and have chosen the parts I want. Just want assurance that the parts I want to get will work perfectly together.

Heres what I've got on my shopping list:-

  • Coolermaster HAF X case
OCZ ZX Series 1250W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
    Gigabyte X58 G1 Assassin Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
    Intel® Core™ i7-990x Extreme Edition (3.46GHz, 12MB, 6.4GT/sec)
Noctua NH-D14 Dual Radiator and Fan Quiet CPU Cooler
    Corsair Vengeance 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit
Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache x2
    3GB Point of View GTX 590 Ultra Charged, 40nm, 3710MHz GDDR5, GPU 670MHz, Shader 1382MHz, 1024 Cores
    English Genuine Windows® 7 Ultimate (64 BIT)

in addition I will be getting a Cooler Master Megaflow 200 x 30mm Red LED Case Fan and a Cooler Master Excaliber 120 x 25mm Case Fan for extra cooling.

So far I've done the maths and it all goes together. I already have an LG blu-ray disc rewriter and HD DVD dom drive. bought it years ago with a previous retail bought system and never installed it so it's brand new.

If you are gaming, get a 2600K or even a 2500K. Cheaper and better performing. X58 is pretty much dead at the moment, if you want the best wait for X79.

GTX590 could be replaced with 2 580's if you get the SB (2600K/2500K) system. PSU is overkill, you could get away with a decent 800W unit like the Corsair AX850. No SSD and slow HDDs (green drives are stupidly slow). Win 7 is also overkill, go for Home Premium or even Professional.

money > sence? ;)

other then the fact that the x58 is a dead end platform, the psu is over kill(unless going quad sli or tri-sli), etc on what vinni3 has already said the fins on the ram will interfer with the d14 as it overhangs the ram slots.

If you're looking at performance, and by the looks of things gaming, personally I'd swap from an X58 to a Z68 with i7 2700k/2600k or even an i5 2500k since they're cheaper and out perform the X58 series of i7's. Saying this though you'd also have to swap your RAM from Tri - Dual channel for compatibility reasons.
Also I'd swap one of the 3TB drives for an SSD of similar price since it looks like you do have the money to spend -
1 ) Corsair Force Series 3 120GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive
2) OCZ Vertex 3 120GB 2.5" SATA-3 Solid State Hard Drive

Both of which have very solid views regarding their performance; just something you may want to consider unless you feel all 6TB is needed.

Crucial M4 128GB on TWO. I've heard Corsair/OCZ have had problems with their SSDs whereas Crucial seem to be better.

Thanks for the input guys looks like i got a bit more research to do. Since all agre X58 is a dead tech I'll have to change that and other components. Will reduce the PSU aswel. at most I think i'll go dual sli. will also change from the green drives as Vinni @HH has stated they're slow. Will be back again once I've got a new set up :)

Def looking to build top of the top so wanting to get that CPU but need a motherboard or "mobo" as i am now learning the lingo :P to support it.

Yeah I know but it's ok. Gotta pay the price if you want top of the top. Trying to workout how would fit the noctua nh-d14 seeing as the RAM config is different

Get a LCLC (low cost liquid cooling) like the Corsair H series, Antec Kúhler, pretty much all RAM can clear these coolers.

EDIT: You could save some money by trimming off the sound card if you would like
