A required field called Favourite Sport is missing or has an invalid value.

Why are we required to include a favourite sport when updating our registration information ?

Seems totally daft to me.

Surely it should be under "Additional Information" along with your bio etc.. not "Registration Information"

It was added within the last year or so I think, not sure why - maybe to help prevent bots? There's been a few threads asking about it before though.

Your standard vBulletin installation doesn't have a required favorite sport field... Why would any generic vB bot expect to have fill it?
