Seeing that hard drive prices are sky high at the moment, which includes second hand ones, IDE ones seems to be cheap at the moment, especially on the bay, shall I go for it?

No. Most new boards don't have an IDE port. Best to buy an external for now. You can rip it out of the external enclosure and place it inside the PC.

This is what I did with my 2tb HDD, ripped it out of the case and rigged it straight up to sata on the mobo. But you can buy IDE to Sata Adapters (about 2 to 3 quid on the bay) that work really well, I have one on my other 500gb hdd.

well I have no problems guys just bought this:

Western Digital "CAVIAR" 250GB internal hard drive (WD2500JD-00HBC0) SATA

for £17.10 including delivery on the bay!
happy days, more than enough for me.

I agree. Santa will be bringing me a shiny new one for chrimbo :D

So long as my kids reckon I have been good that is

Just dress up as Santa and your kids will definitely say you've been good ;)

But yes, that's a good point. Considering the current prices it may be better to buy an SSD.
