So in 4 days time, when retail is released everyone will lose everything and have to start from fresh?

But then can transfer their home (somehow) to the new map.

I currently have my stuff in someone elses house and am building a new home. Would I lose this if its not set as my home? I would rather lose my building than all my stuff like diamonds, gold etc

If everyone starts again with nothing andcould no-one could transfer nothing, I would be happier with this. - I can see how some wont be though, if they have been building something & collecting for 2 years +


Will there be a way to see an overview of the map on certain servers? It would be awesome if there was just one GIANT map for everyone, which everyone played on at once


'After a few days a portal will be opened to the 1.7 World where you can collect your items and continue work on your old builds.'

Does this mean things from 1.7 world will be transferrable to 1.0 world? If its not possbile I would rather play from scratch in 1.0.

Nope. This has been discussed on here and elsewhere a ton.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON RELEASE (bolded so people don't miss it)

On release:

Fresh new world and no access to 1.7 world. Inventories on your characters wiped.

One-two weeks later:

1.7 will be made available and linked to the main world. You will be able to get at anything as normal from 1.7

Sometime (more than a month or two) later:

1.7 will be wiped and some stuff copied across (maybe).
 
Sounds good. Looking forward to this. Currently *spoiler* taking down a boss in the ender! In creative mode mind.. :p

If this is the case, whats the point in starting anything fresh or even playing it for the first 1-2 weeks? Might aswell wait and get things linked over from 1.7 world.

Otherwise people will collect wood, build basic house etc then a week down the line will be dwarfed by huge structures, diamonds and everything else that has already been done

Or is this just this one server. Do other servers start fresh than now allow transfer from 1.7?

The idea is that some people enjoy the "fresh start" feeling so we're attempting to cater to that. At the same time, some people don't want to lose their builds or materials, so we're catering to that too.

A week is plenty of time to find a mine/have a stash of iron and diamonds!
 
I respect the wishes for a fresh start, but it should also be considered that it has already been announced we would have access to old items, thus i think many have been spending the past couple of weeks gathering materials they'll be using come release, i have at least.

I think after a week or two most players would have begun work on their new builds far out from spawn so even with the influx of their old items you will be less likely to see diamond houses and such in the immediate area.

Also as said above within a week or 2 if you spend most of your in-game time mining you can get more than enough materials to make a massive build especially if you have some friends helping.

You're right in saying it's been announced that we'll get access to old items.... after a couple of weeks of a fresh start on the retail map.

FT and the admins have clearly stated this many times both here and on LinkTart.

If people, including yourself, have been gathering materials to use come release (i don't mean to sound harsh here) but that's a misunderstanding you their part.

What I have posted had already been announced and that is what is happening. This has been set in stone for around a month.

There's nothing additional we need to give consideration to. This is a compromise that tries to keep both "sides" of the server happy. All you need to do is have a little patience.
