Today's insurance rant...

Confusingly my TS10 offence makes about £20 difference to my insurance quotes, which are still nice and cheap, looking at about £600 fully comp if I get a policy on the '5 this year at 20 with 2 years NCB :)

I feel for people living in bad areas of London and N.I. It's only a 1.3l Yaris too :(.

I knew my insurance would be steep, but I bought my first car on Saturday - buy now worry later sorta thing. Cheapest quotes I'm getting for my 1.2 03 Punto is £5000 - it's a bit steep considering I'm a student only earning 40 a week. :(

I literally have no idea of what I'm going to do ......

Even moving to Bolton saved me almost a grand. Manchester truly is **** for car insurance. I feel for people living in bad areas of London and N.I. It's only a 1.3l Yaris too :(.

Ouch £2000 on a 1.3l yaris. My 335i is costing me £1400 a year and I'm 22 (live in greater London). How long have you been driving?

it would definitely feature in my claim and I'd persue it with as much legal weight as my cover allows, regardless of whether it's a standard claim or not :)

It was discussed in detail on the Consumer Action Group in quite a long thread, in the end it turns out it would be an 'uninsured loss' and couldn't be claimed for.

Be wary of legal cover packaged with car insurance - it's an absolute scam and they'll only take your case if you are likely to win.

In which case you could get any old lawyer to take your case on a conditional fee agreement. There is some discussion about this across the internet.

In some cases you are worse of for having insurance through your car insurance than you would be if you just engaged your own CFA insurer without a policy.

well it's £11 extra a year so in for a penny in for a pound (or 11 of them!) :p

Yes... there must be some stats that say now I've been involved in a non-fault that I'm more likely to be involved in another... I would have thought it would be the opposite, experience and all.

Either that or it's disguised like that and is just a way for them to scam "their" money back out of you (which was yours to begin with).

You don't even get the hire car for a reasonable amount of time or reasonable notice when they want to steal it back from you... They gave me 24 hours notice when I was in Blackpool for 3 days on business... on the first day!

The reason they gave, I was delaying the claim by not accepting their valuation that was £4,000 less than the real market value!!!

They refused to extend it to let me get home, effectively stranding me 100s of miles from home... They litterally told me to leave it where it was as I would no longer be insured from midnight that night and to leave the key with it in a wheel arch or similar. To top it off... I would be responsible for it! So if it got stolen because they refused to let me take it home and demanded I leave the key with it, I would have to pay! I was fuming and flat out denied to accept any form of responsibility for that.

After chasing and getting bounced back and forth between various people... managers of managers of managers, 2 hours before I was going to jump on a train they finally extended it to get me home.

Absolute nightmare & days of stress when I was on a customer's site... thankfully this client was understanding... could have been even worse!

Government enforced con :(

They did the exact same to me and I told them in no uncertain terms where to go (I was already thoroughly ****** off with them for giving me a hyundai i10 as a "like for like" replacement for a Focus).

It really is a complete con

It might be worth noting that when you do a 'confused' or whatever bulk car insurance search you get credit searched about a billion times which may not help a few weeks later when you actually go to do some real quotes.

Source?

Why would you get credit checked when you are not being provided any credit? Most people just pay for their car insurance up front. I highly doubt car insurance companies are going to pay for a credit check every single time they get a quote request through a comparison site

Those go down as quotation searches/unrecorded enquiries which are only visible to you not the companies searching your file.

Everything apart from the value for repair/write off of your car is an uninsured loss.
You are claiming for them from the 3rd party because you were not insured against them (because there is no insurance against them).
