Footballers Wages

Why?

No one gets forced to join the Services. Why should people doing other jobs be made to feel guilty for those serving in Afghan etc?

Im sorry but we all know what can be required when we join the military. We get told how much we are gonna earn before we sign up.

Its only us poor folk who think rich people should give away money to charity. We use it as our way of getting back to them. 99% of us here dont donate a penny. Nor do we give a crap about the Charities we think rich folk should donate to.

If I was earning 30k a WEEK I would donate, as it stands, I have no money at the end of each month, and thats without treating myself in general.

I actually donated to a charity this month thank you, so there you go.

Indeed.

I also fear that if the the footballers wage was given to the military, more people would sign up purely for that, as opposed to wanting to actually fight for their country.

Meh. I give money to charity at the start of the month and then budget from there.

You don't have to be "rich" to give money to charity.

a lot of footballers do give a fair slice to charity, OK its a drop in the ocean to them... but look at a lot of African/South American footballers, they will give money to their home countries to help them setup schools, football academies etc

English players do the same, OK 10 grand might not be much to someone like Beckham, Rooney etc... but if they gave that to Cancer Research or a Childrens Charity then it will make a lot of difference for them.

Of course they earn too much in real terms, but its driven by demand of the fans to see them and in turn by the sponsors willing to put their brand out there infront of those fans.

Going back 14 years or so when my mate was a keeper at a Premier League team (youth/reserves in the main) and he was bringing home 1k per week... not a lot at all, but back then and at 17/18 its ridiculous. He was then on the bench for 2 first team games and got a bonus of 1k per match for that! Its not as silly as todays money but you can see how it can grow and grow... now 'ironically' he is a lower league journeyman and picks up even more than he did then, so you can see how it all spirals down the sport.

As long as the club can afford it I don't mind what the players are paid. What annoys me is when there are clubs struggling to compete and they spend loads of money, eventually geting themselves into an absolute financial mess.

Footballers, other Sportsmen and Celebrities all get ridiculous wages because we the General Public are completely stupid and are far too easily manipulated by the Marketeers and the Media. It really is that simple.

It is drummed into you from childhood, primary school kids choosing Nike 'Swoosh' merchandise over other branded things because the 'Swoosh' is better...But the kids cannot tell you why it is better, it just is...

It's all just Brainwashing on an almost religious scale. :(
This.

People are stupid.

If people are manipulated into being stupid by society/education/media they should also shoulder some of the blame.

I would never pay for a label, seriously - how stupid must a person be to think an item is worth 10 times the value of another because it has a "swoosh/tick" on it.

Because our current capitalist model is the only obviously the only possible economic model.

Try thinking beyond simple capitalism.

There is nothing inherently wrong with capitalism. Most of the present problems in our version of capitalism have arisen because of information inequality.

If Wayne Rooney wasn't a footballer he and his missus will be claiming tons in benefits for their 8 kids. As it is, he pays more in taxes than everyone here combined and claims nothing from the government.

Don't worry about it.

If the clubs earned the money, then i couldn't care less what they choose to pay the players.
Relying on debt and loans to keep up with the wages the big boys can offer is a daft idea though, and eventually the bubble bursts (Pompey )

Footballers in the top division earn on average £33k a week...

I earn approximately 42% of that in a year...

If I compare my wages to the highest paid player (by the website I'm basing this on it lists this player as Carlos Tevez at £200k a week).

I earn approximately 7% of that... IN A YEAR! :(

I would like to think that research in to new antimicrobial agents was more important than football, but judging by wages... I guess not :(

A footballer could have a good go at being a decent soldier or nurse.

A nurse or soldier would make a useless professional footballer.

Thats the bottom line...

If everyone was able to be a professional footballer then we would, chances of making it are hard and they are rewarded accordingly I believe :D

slipperz :)
