Hi guys,

I'm looking at building myself a new computer soon. I've decided on the i5 2500k. My questions is what motherboard should I get. I'm looking at the z68 chipset, and I will be using 2 x 4gb RAM, which I may upgrade to 16gb in the future.

I've looked at these so far on the overclockers site:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-368-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-192-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990

If I needed to stretch to a little more I would, but I'd like something which is future proof and I could look at overclocking, which isn't going to restrict me.

I'm only after a stable overclock. I'd be quite happy with 4Ghz, although I know I could achieve a lot more

I went for the MSI Z68A-GD55 and its a great board and as you say future proof well ivy bridge ready I have had it 3 weeks now and am loving it 4.5ghz stable.

Ye thats just the slightly more expensive model of the msi board I posted. Do you know if theres much difference between the boards with regards to overclocking facilities and performance etc?

I can't link another site but if you google it there is a list that list all the features each board has the GD55 has a few more features and I think for the price difference for the extra I think its worth it, the 65 which is the one up from mine is not much different from the one I have at all.

The gigabyte one seems to be really good. Looked at a fair few reviews, and some comparisons. Does anyone have any experience with this board. A fair few people have recommended them over the msi boards

I went for an Asus P8Z68-V and I find this board meets all my needs. For quickness I used the auto OC facility and straight away it went to 4.3. Will do more when manually OC.

Hi guys,

I'm coming closer to looking at doing a custom build. However, I still haven't decided on what motherboard.

I want something that will work well with my i5 2500k, overclocking wise and good features. I've looked at the Asrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 which seems a good board, however there are a few problems regarding overclocking.

Does anyone else have any motherboards that they would recommend?

Cheers

+1

I chose this one as it's part of the 4.6Ghz bundle OCUK are doing so figured it must be a good overclocker... & it is!

You get cash back on the MSI Z68A-GD55 so it's about £104 :D

I went with the Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3..
I'm well pleased with mine...
Google it and you'll see its got some excellent reviews.. That's why I went for it

I like the look of the Gigabyte Z68XP - but it doesn't have a integrated graphics support, which I intend to use for a short while before purchasing a powerful graphics card. Cheers anyway, I am looking at its bigger brother :)

may want to check your facts there the z68xp-ud3 DOES have onboard VGA

anyway if buying by the 21st msi z68a-g65 g3 £150 but £125 after cashback.
