Red Hot Chili Peppers UK and Ireland Tour

Saw them on Saturday at the SECC. Didn't see much of the support, we came in during their 2nd last song and then went straight to the bar. They sounded quite boring if truth be told, though they did end on quite a cool jazz/funk fusion jam which was good. £15 for 4 pints was not good.

Chillis came on, and were pretty good. I don't think that they were £50 good but good nonetheless. Can't really remember the set list, but they played Californication and Under The Bridge (apparently, I swear it never happened though!) so that's good!
Not a great deal of crowd interaction, though Chad threw lots of sticks out to the crowd which got the people right at the front worked up. I was far enough back that I could enjoy my pint but still get with the bounce.

Would I go and see them again? Possibly not. It was my first time I've seen them, and I don't think that their recent stuff has been anywhere near as good as their older stuff (By The Way was good, I thought, everything after that has been poor). If they played again and tickets were ~£25 then I would probably check them out but not for £50.

If you're going, I'm sure you'll have a good time!

What this guy said, went to see them at the MEN last night, quite dissapointed to be honest. No where near as good as the last time I saw them, back in 2006.

Not a big fan of their new stuff, but never really listened to their new stuff before I went so didn't know what to expect.

All the Blood, Sex Magic stuff is great, although I still don't think it sounded as good as when I saw them before, probably down to the new guitarist.

The support - Fools Gold, sound very much like they have been inspired by RHCP but just sounded very samey.

I went to see them at the O2 last Wednesday and really enjoyed them! They are definitely sounding worse without Friscante (sp? :p) but they were good nonetheless...

I hated "Monarchy of Roses" for a long while - but after seeing it live I now love it :p

They seemed to start quite slow but they worked their way up :D

Still missing Friscante - he was such a big impact on their sound and their older songs sound quite different with Josh on guitar - good but not great :p

Yeah, nowhere near as good as they were when they had John. He is utter brilliance.

The solos in this song for example, especially the one at the very end.... The day Josh stops drowning out his guitar with distortion effects and manages to play something as amazing as that, I'll throw mine off a bridge! Never happening. :p

Oh go on then, have a video full of them.

I dont want to buy the new album because it isnt john.

Currently eyeing up a guitar to try and jam to his solo's :p. Might take a while!

Big fan if you cant tell.

Totally agree. I can listen to his live stuff over and over again and never get bored with it. I think I must have listened to their Hyde Park and Slane Castle tours a thousand times :p

Same.

What makes it even better for me was that I was at hyde park when they recorded it. I wasnt much of a fan before I went. ;)

It's still pretty good and something I listen to often, but them playing live will never quite be the same.

Do you listen to his solo work?

I'm under the impression that not many people know about him, which is evident in guitarist threads on here. I remember the 'your top 5 guitarists' thread for example with lots of pages and only about two people mentioned Frusciante (myself one of them). What's going on there? :p

Yeah it is pretty crazy... I would probably rate him as the best guitarist currently alive. :p

Stop it... :p

He is! I am a huge fanboy though as people will know, so maybe I'm just a tad biased. :p

There are guitarists trying to be good guitarists, good guitarists trying to be amazing guitarists, amazing guitarists trying to be master guitarists, and master guitarists trying to be John Frusciante. ;)
