I got a beta key through IGN Prime a week or so ago. And when I tried to register I also got "site under maintenance" message on the SWTOR website. So maybe it has been under maintenance for a whole week now?

These "giveaway" keys will indeed harm your chances of being let in.

These keys are the same as the one every registered member of SWTOR.com got on Friday.

If you have an invite from Bioware already don't be greedy and let someone not registered on SWTOR.com have one.

So we get download instructions when the next test phase/event starts I presume?

Could end up barely getting a day to play between the servers being overloaded and having to time the download around isp's "fair usage" hours

I got that to but I hit continue and when it went back round to my account info it shows the key as redeemed.

where in My Account do you see the key as redeemed?

Problem is the email I got Friday did not contain a beta key or download link it just said I will get a beta invite some time soon. Suppose I'll just have to wait and see

Bioware have said they will try to give about 10 days notice of the test, so people have the opportunity to download the client well in advance of the test starting. So this should give most people plenty of time to get the 30ish gig client prior to the test.

It will only be a weekend test of the game and its likely to be very laggy and fall over a lot. Its designed to be a stress test to see if their server infrastructure can cope come launch day and if not upgrade it or limit initial access to the game at launch.
