Just curious as to who here has moved away from using a desktop PC to using a laptop?

I'm still a desktop user and have all my life on my harddrives (backed up of course! :p). I think I'm still of the mindset that the desktop is faster, and generally easier to work on (I hate trackpads and like having a big screen).

However, I've been using laptops/netbooks more recently owing to circumstance and I do find myself missing being sat at my desk with my pc. Ok, so it's 3-4 years old and not particularly powerful, but it's quicker to use and bigger than the laptop. Even for just browsing the net and running outlook it just "feels" more comfortable.

I think long term, moving onto a laptop full time would make sense, certainly now with the huge capacity of harddrives you can get it makes sense. However, I'm not quite ready to make the move yet! You can still plug it into a big screen and speakers if you want to...

So curious here who still uses a desktop, who has moved to a laptop, and who still uses both?

I've made the poll multiple choice so that the 2 questions can be answered.

Hate laptops. Hate the closeness one is to the screen compared to a keyboard and screen. Normal PC seems more robust and easier to upgrade.

I've gone from laptop to netbook to smartphone :p

So for me, Smartphone + Desktop!

Poll needs more options!

I ditched my desktop and bought a decent spec'd laptop instead.

I have a monitor, keyboard and mouse etc on my desk and I just hook up my laptop when I'm at home and hide it out of sight.

Although, I am tempted to buy a desktop as sometimes a laptop doesn't cut it for when you feel the need to upgrade, be it with hard drives, graphics, etc.

That's basically how I feel at the moment... though I haven;'t ditched the desktop for the fear of the last paragraph. However I seldom play games, and just like a computer to be quick and efficient. :)

I stopped gaming, and then went travelling. Therefore a laptop was a more sensible option, and it's stuck. However, since I bought my first laptop (mid-2009) I'm currently on my fourth model due to spillages, theft and dropping!

That's an issue, but if insure it, and back it up daily then I suppose that's less of a problem.

Laptop only - I can't afford both and portability is more important to me than the ability to play games.

This, I got the best laptop for my money that would provide average 8 hours+ battery life. Still manages most of my important stuff too, internet browsing, Adobe software, watching films etc.

I do have an external monitor that I hook up to at home via HDMI for more screen space.

Yeah, my laptop is only a year old now and it's starting to feel a bit sluggish but sadly, I can't upgrade it! :p

I'm probably going to spend around £400 on a desktop which will be better than my laptop, but I still feel it was a good decision due to the portability of the laptop (use it all the time at University) and when it's hooked up at my desk there's zero difference between the laptop and the desktop usage.

Predominantly desktop and tablet.

99% of computer usage is "proper" and so sitting at my desk isn't in convenient.

When on the sofa or bed 99% of the time I'll just be browsing, and the gaypad does this fine.

I do have a laptop but i haven't used it for months.

Thanks for your help last night btw :)

Mainly use my work or personal laptop + iPhone, I ditched my desk about a year ago and used my desktop machines inside an arcade cabinet and digital pinball machine.

I could never go back to a desktop machine, laptop all the way!

Just on laptop here due to getting a dog and him taking over the study. One day I'll get another desktop for the sheer joy of easy upgrading, but I'll need to work out where to put it first.
