Job Seekers are being forced into taking upto 6 weeks upaid 'work experience' at Tesco (posted 3.5 billion profits last year), poundland, and other stores. As soon as they sign up for the unpaid experience with no promise of a job at the end of it, they are told that if they quit their JSA will be stripped off them.

We are training our young and vulnerable to be slaves for big corp britain.

Conservatives, take a bow

Fantastic. They are getting paid and also feeling what a job is like. Perhaps they will get up and motivate them to get a job. Just unfortunate that it's an optional thing and not forced.

What we need to do to solve this is hang around a church in London for 4 months not washing. That'll fix it...

I bet the 'big corps' are loving this, free labour force funded by the government! What ever next...

It'll be some sort of compromise and deal by goverment. It's not so good for them. I'll trained, uninterested needing huge supervision if they even turn up. So it's hardly a cheap easy workforce.

You don't really know what a workhouse is do you? Or do you think the myriad of schemes that schools and universities offer for work placements are also workhouse schemes?

Lol that amusing, as if Tesco can't afford to pay these people. Basically, they're saying to the jobseekers, bend over or we'll take the little money we give you, same thing happened to me, only I lost lol.

From the unemployed point of view I suppose it's good, Tesco management will be able to weed out those people who are useful and give them full time jobs and leave the drug users and other wasters behind.

Although, won't this mean their JSA will need to be increased? after all if they're doing unpaid work then theyr'e not making any money in order to pay for the bus to get to work?

Also how does this work if they work more than 16 hours a week? they get their JSA taken off them anyway? bit messed up if you ask me

This is wrong, if it was working for a Charity that would be great.

But giving Tesco free labor is very wrong.

Meh, I wouldn't mind doing a couple of hours a day in a major retailer in the hope of getting a job. I'm currently only working part time and looking into volunteering for some extra experience. Beats sitting around all day doing **** all.

First step to the abolishment of the minimum wage. I can almost hear some Conservative millionaire minister saying something like "look at all the interest in employing people while paying them nothing, yet no-one is taking on people at minimum wage. We should let the free market decide the price of labour"

Was called training for work in 2006 when I was working for one of the providers who dished it out, very much happened under Labour's raw deal and there were schemes like it under the last tory administration. Nothing new about them tbh.

No, and I assume neither do you mate, you weren't around in the victorian era were you? Nope, ok, only your views were then.

People being threatened into working for big corp, 30 hours per week in return for 57 quid (1.80 odd an hour) is slavery!

I wonder what instills such conservative unhealthy views in people?

Why would charitys take untrained and a pain in the **** people on. WhAts wrong with doing deals with private companies.
Such people will come with a hole host of issues which mean they won't be productive in the vast majority of cases.
