Take a bow, mighty conservative Britain, the workhouses are back

If there is work for these people to do at Tesco, Argos etc why don't the companies just actually create the full time position & employ someone on a wage?
 
My objection to it is that it could put people who are being paid out of work by having a stream of free temp workers.

Also the current government stopped the grass roots program which helped a lot of charities with funding( not that I agreed with my tax being taken to fund them). But it would be a great way to help out with local charities giving them an increase in labour.

How. As said, training, motivation, turning up on time. Etc. these aren't in the most cases going to be nice free staff. They are guaranteed an interview and ypif they are good are likely to be offered a job.
It's no different to people working for free back in the day to probe themselfs worthy, something which generally doesn't happen these days.

Because Lord Tesco and Sir Argos have greased the oily pole of some conservative ******s in the Department of work and pensions.
 
I don't understand how encouraging people to work for effectively nothing is going to help them feel like an engaged, enthusiastic and motivated member of the workforce?
 
How would that work. 8weeks, how do you train people, how do you keep most of them motivated, how do you make them come to work, or come in on time. That really isn't going to be an issue at all.
They'll need huge amounts of supervision.

I've worked at Tesco doing a variety of different jobs, trust me, the training doesn't take a week with the majority of jobs these guys will be getting

Trolley Dolly
Shelf Stacker
Warehouse assistant

Perhaps it's because these companies are some of the largest employers which are continually recruiting, have a high turn over of staff and have the ability to actually do such a scheme with the personal required to manage it both on the floor and from a HR perspective as well as littel training needed for the very basic jobs.

Because it gets them valuable work experience, something to put down on their CV and the possibility of a job. Did you do work experience at school or university? Is that also "workhouse slavery"?
 
I work at Sainsburys and know a fair few people at the store I work have got a full job out of this, two people that had been in on these were given jobs three weeks ago, so there is a positive
 
Pretty sure I remember doing 'work experience' for £20 odd quid a week with Safeways (now Morrisons) back in the early 80's when I left school, so its not really anything new.

And you sound like a crazed person, who makes up rubbish and can't read an article.
If you want jobs they are out there. You are being paid by the state and as such do what they deem nessacerily to obtain that money. Don't like it come off JSA one way or another. Not that this is even compulsory.
I've done a hole host of "undesirable jobs" and I'm proud of the fact I'm not a scrounged and work hard and will do what ever is need to secure a job.
