Excellent news. Hopefully this will stop people sitting around doing nothing and scrounging off the government.
Unfortunately not, as it's optional and in the first week they can give up.

My objection to it is that it could put people who are being paid out of work by having a stream of free temp workers.
Also the current government stopped the grass roots program which helped a lot of charities with funding( not that I agreed with my tax being taken to fund them). But it would be a great way to help out with local charities giving them an increase in labour.
If there is work for these people to do at Tesco, Argos etc why don't the companies just actually create the full time position & employ someone on a wage?

They do, such companies are always advertising, interviewing and employing.
How would that work. 8weeks, how do you train people, how do you keep most of them motivated, how do you make them come to work, or come in on time. That really isn't going to be an issue at all.
They'll need huge amounts of supervision.
Because Lord Tesco and Sir Argos have greased the oily pole of some conservative ******s in the Department of work and pensions.
I don't understand how encouraging people to work for effectively nothing is going to help them feel like an engaged, enthusiastic and motivated member of the workforce?
Worked in several myself.I've worked at Tesco doing a variety of different jobs, trust me, the training doesn't take a week with the majority of jobs these guys will be getting
