Personally I think you're crediting the mods with too much subtlety and implying too much interest in the result - if fixing the result was an aim then it wouldn't be difficult but to keep monkeying with the votes to keep it fairly balanced suggests a level of interest that I doubt is there. I'm not certain but I'd suspect it would also show up in the edit history for the thread...

If the people on this forum decide to act like a school-yard gang by hounding somebody unpopular from it's ranks, it's not a forum i would want to be a member of. The level of respect here is already very low compared to other fora/forums/fori? that i use. One-upmanship seems to be the order of the day. The level of smug superiority is already dangerously high.

If a community cannot be accepting of all it's members it's not a community worth being a part of.
