8GB vs 16GB

A link which shows that please.

Both AMD and Intel have some developer guides explaining it. Intel calls it “Enhanced Legacy PAE Paging”, because you can go beyond 64 GB on modern CPUs.

Microsoft supports up to 128 GB. They won't support more than that, because it gets difficult to handle so much ram in 32bit.

Well, I certainly didn't need to go 16GB, but I wanted to keep my new coming mobo for a few years, and the way things go, prices could certainly go up again by the time I wanted more.

£70 for 16GB Kingston HyperX seemed like too good a deal to pass on. Sure, prices may drop slightly more, but don't see it being enough to make much difference. Is not like paying £200 for 2GB.

Needed or not, I would recommend people upgrade if the outlay in cash is negligible.

personally, 8gb is more than enough. I run 8gb and its perfect, and i run Ableton live for my music creations (ram sucking software), but even 8gb is enough...

Unless you can get decent 16gb or ram for the same price as 8gb, then i wouldnt bother...
Pointless paying double the price of 8gb for 16gigs, when you really wont need it.

Sure its good to be future proof, but 16gb??? thats mentall, and IMHO, pointless..

But im sure others have their own opinions, and its completely upto you...

Even when gaming, games like BF3 use 1.9GB of RAM (mine does) so if you have 8GB, 3GB being used by the OS, another 2GB or so by background apps, 1GB~ for foreground apps like the browser etc and you can see how 8GB isn't going to be an ideal amount of RAM for a modern day gamer either.

This is why I have 16GB and with RAM prices so cheap....it's a crime not to.
