900 bhp Mk2 Golf

I refuse to read the article based on the title alone:

"900-horsepower VW Golf is quicker than Bugatti Veyron"

SO WHAT, show me the climate control or 240mph top speed in the golf please.

Sensationalist headline of the day, my car is quicker than an F-18 fighterjet.

Not a waste at all, building something quick in a straight line needs something light.

there was a 600bhp fwd mk2 running at Santa pod this year. shell has been sold after he couldnt get the power down.

Impressive.

Why is he always so slow off the line, or doesn't it matter, does the timing only start when you start moving?

One of a few reasons, mainly that 900BHP off the mark will result in not going forward but instead causing the tyres to melt :p

LOL that's mental. I liked the second vid. Almost seems as though the Golf driver is trying to give the VXR driver a sense of hope then lets rip. Awesome little thing.

Correct, the actual timing only starts when he crosses the start 'line'. His reaction times would be registered as dog-slow, but I guess he was just trying to get the best possible launch and not particularly worried about getting good reaction times.

As for crinkleshoes' comment on it being a 'waste of money', what a bizarre thing to say. It's obviously been built for a purpose, it's no more a waste of money than any other car built for the drag strip.

It weighs less than a V8 M3. Regardless of the weight I was referring to you saying it was cheap to get big power from American engines. In this country that simply isn't true.
