Just spent god knows how long trying install my SA on said board.

I first installed it in the traditional orientation with took freakin' ages since the heatsink highlighted in blue block access to one of the mounting kit screws which meant i had removed the motherboard (again) in order to get to it since there was not enough room for me to get to it due the design of my case.

Once re-installed i was mortified to discover that even my low profile corsair ram still blocked the first fan from installing. Removing the motherboard yet again in order to remove the fans and fan clips in order to place the offending fan on the rear nearest the case exhaust fan i found that this time the heatsink in red blocked the fan from being installed.

My only option now is the orient the cooler to exhaust out the top of the case which is a pain since it will block off the first PCI-E slot meaning i'll have a super crowded case when i eventually decide to go SLI.

Got the Noctua D14 on mine, fitted easily and it's in an Antec P180 which isn't exactly spacious.
More like another reason NOT to get the SA ;)

cool story bro :p (I've always wanted to say that...)

Anyways er yea that kinda sucks :( I've never understood why people still stick with these HUGE heatsinks when you can buy a prebuilt watercooling CPU thingy like the Corsairs or OCUK's ver pretty cheaply which must be better not only for your sanity but also more effiecient cooling. Anyways good luck !

Please tell me its not true... I have an Asrock Extreme 4 Gen 3 and XMS memory... And have a SA on backorder... >.<..

Anyone able to confirm that this is true?? or do we have people with the board and Silver Arrows installed ok ??

Smaller fans = need to run them faster = more noise. (obviously that's simplified and may not always be true)

The pre-builds come with smaller fans, pumps which may or may not make a significant amount of noise, and actually don't cool as well as those monstrosity CPU coolers. They're simply not as good, though that doesn't mean they're not "good enough", I'm thinking about picking up one myself.

Got a Silver Arrow here also in a CM690 II Advanced case...the fan will sit directly over the first two standard height rams (touching the top of the rams). I don't know why you are having problem...unless the AsRock board sit the CPU mount lower, or the rams higher?

Yea thats fair enough I guess. I havnt used a huge heatsink for year's. I had a corsair hyrdo on my last build which was fine. As that got old and I upgraded I have now moved on to custom WC. That said the custom WC was expensive. But my PC is sooo quiet and getting some nice temps out of it :)

i have the silver arrow on my extreme4 Gen3 with low profile vengeance and it installed without a hitch, although I mounted it with the motherboard already in the case. The fan sits fine over my RAM slots without any problems.

Would you mind posting a picture?
