£1,500 build advice?

I'm getting less and less patient about spending this money burning a hole in my pocket (new job!), and replacing my ageing computer is high on the list.

I'm thinking of spending about £1,500 on a complete build (minus a few things). It'll be for gaming mainly, but with a few other requirements.

I currently have an E4500 with a GTX460, so it'll be a whole new system, apart from storage drives, as I have enough already, given current prices.

I'm wanting to go with a 2600k or 2700k if it's worth it, as when I'm back at uni next year the extra power will be useful for some of the more intensive programs. I'd also like an SSD (64GB at least preferably), but other than that the spec is pretty much whatever will give best performance in games.

Current ideas;

2600k/2700k with decent cooler
Whichever motherboard is best for the price - I'm not actually sure what chipset I should be looking at?
6970 or better GPU (not against going X-Fire/SLI if it's worth it)
64GB M4 SSD
700W+ PSU (depending on graphics card setup)
24" 1080P screen (I already have a 19" screen that I'll use as a second screen)
8GB RAM - Can't see me needing any more than this
Subtle case that's not too huge as I'll be taking it up to uni next year

I think that covers everything?!

Also what's the situation on the next CPUs and GPUs around the corner? Are we talking a month or two, or a lot longer?

Are you storage drives and DVD drive SATA or IDE connection?

If we say Q1 next year then that is about right.

HDDs are all SATA, but I'll be needing a new DVD (might go Blu-Ray actually with the prices now).

Budget is flexible, don't mind going over a bit if it's worth it.

OS I can get through uni for free, and I've got a decent set of speakers, so just keyboard and mouse. Thought I'd remembered to mention everything, guess not :P

With that screen, I'm not really interested about 3D, so would it be worth going for a cheaper one, or does the quality of the screen justify the price even without 3D?

Right, pretty much ready to hit go on the build Stulid suggested above, the only change being adding in a 64GB M4 SSD.

Any last minute suggestions or anything from anyone? Speak now or forever hold your piece.

Apart from spending £400+, they all have the same resolution as the average 24" screen, meaning the pixels are bigger and so the image will be a bit more course.

Never seen one to compare, but you aren't getting any extra desktop space for the increase in screen size.

I just hooked up the Hazro 27" that I got for £419 (It's £407.99 on this weeks offers) off overclockers, and I must say It's amazing. The 2560*1440 resolution is majestic! :)

Watched a film on it last night and the details are stunning!

Will try Skyrim on it tonight, and let you know how it feels, but the sheer size of the monitor is impressive!
