900 bhp Mk2 Golf

i cant get how in the hell hes got that much power yeah 1.8turbo but 900hp  something doesnt seem right to me somewhere

He is riding a massive wall of boost. The F1 turbo era were running 1.5 turbo with rumoured upto 1500ish bhp in qualifying trim.

He's running an absolutely massive turbo, and it's running on E85 which is 85% ethanol and is around 100-115 octane, which allows massive amounts of boost and aggressive ignition advance, which all help towards huge power.

Its proper cool - make no bones about it. Its an old Mk2 with 900bhp, which will slay almost anything it will come up against. There's bound to be a few people moaning about it saying that its not a Bugatti Veyron etc, but they are missing the point. If all the nay sayers in here could knock something like that up, they'd be showing the world too. You've got to be a bit of a moron to think its anything less than impressive.
The fella that's built it has obviously had a bit of a laugh making it and is now enjoying his efforts. And why shouldn't he?

:)

That's awesome. I don't really think that the sensationalist headline takes away from the fact that it's a great engineering achievement. Nothing new and not the fastest car in the world, but I bet it's a lot of fun! Love how people are criticising it, come back when you've built something quicker..

Who's criticised the car? I've actually said nothing against the Golf at all, i actually think it's a great bit of engineering much in the same way i love the 2 engined Mi32 205 etc. However what i have criticised is how it’s being compared to a Veyron that's just nonsense, lots of things are quicker down the 1/4 mile than a Veyron but guess what, the Bugatti was never but to be a 1/4 mile racer, shock, which coincidently is the ONLY thing that Golf can do.

What would be interesting and what i really want someone to do is take a longitudinal 1.8T convert a Mk1 or Mk2 golf to RWD give it 900bhp and run that down the strip, it would be really interesting to see how much the weight shift and fwd platform hamper the 1/4 mile times.

Why are you so angry about it? Have you only just realised that media use sensationalist headlines or comparisons to draw attention? You might be a bit behind the curve if that's the case.

It's also a bit of a strange thing to pick up and then drag on with - it's faster than a Bugatti Veyron in a specific setting, which not many things are, and it's a Golf. It's pretty impressive for a number of reasons as has already been mentioned - get over it?

I'm not angry, what a strange thing to say. Thanks for the clarification on the proliferation of sensationalist headlines though until you pointed it out i would never have guessed. I'm hardly 'dragging on with it' i've mentioned it twice, once when i brought it up and a second time to answer when someone called me out and now you.

You've hit the nail on the head with the following 'it's faster than a Bugatti Veyron in a specific setting' My car is quicker than an F-18 fighterjet in a specific setting so perhaps i should post an artical about that, it's meaningless, they should have done an article about the car minus the BS.

It's a stupid comparison to use for the following reasons:

- The Veyron was never built to be a 1/4 mile racer, if Bugatti wanted to do that they could have built something faster than the Veryon.

- This Golf is a one trick pony the Veryon isn't.

- To achieve the 1/4 mile times the Golf is stripped out to the bones, the Veryon isn't.

- The Veryon would trounce the Golf in a longer race.

Isolating one thing from a much more expensive car then claiming how awesome your car is because it's faster than the other car at one thing is silly.
