900 bhp Mk2 Golf

That's pretty impressive.

I'm getting a puny 310 bhp from a turbo'd VW 1800 (ex G60) bored out to 1900. That's insane power from an 1800.

I'm not angry, what a strange thing to say. Thanks for the clarification on the proliferation of sensationalist headlines though until you pointed it out i would never have guessed. I'm hardly 'dragging on with it' i've mentioned it twice, once when i brought it up and a second time to answer when someone called me out and now you.

I'm pretty sure I didn't call you out, just made a general statement. Chill out dude :)

Who's criticised the car? I've actually said nothing against the Golf at all, i actually think it's a great bit of engineering much in the same way i love the 2 engined Mi32 205 etc. However what i have criticised is how it’s being compared to a Veyron that's just nonsense, lots of things are quicker down the 1/4 mile than a Veyron but guess what, the Bugatti was never but to be a 1/4 mile racer, shock, which coincidently is the ONLY thing that Golf can do.

Honestly, you talk some rubbish:

SO WHAT, show me the climate control or 240mph top speed in the golf please.

WTF? - you are the one making comparisons. It was only the journo's who said it was faster than a Veyron, as the Veyron is a recognised car to benchmark it too. If they said it was faster than a 911, it would all just just be a bit meh, because there's lots of them faster than 911's.

And to say its only good for up the quarter mile? Stroll on! :D A fettled one is can be a very good track car, you know. If you have been to Oulton (which I assume you have), you'll have seen that black Mk2 that often turns up wont you?

Why, wouldn't it be more appropriate to make a comparison to a car which operates within the same field, it's apples and oranges an isolated statistic for the Forza motorsport generation.

Yes i've been to Oulton lots, but only to watch racing, a small capacity fwd car with a large turbo wouldn't be my first choice for trackday fun.

I'd say he's right. There's no way in that state of tune the engine could sustain track driving on and off the throttle given the the way it's likely to be boosted. It's good for short flat-out bursts, that's all.

I don't think he's saying "Mk2 Golfs are no good as track cars".

Might not be your first choice, but they are great fun and can embarass much more expensive machinery at a fraction of the cost if done right. I am slightly biased on that matter though :D

This is very true. Small, light FWD hatches are good on track. Just watch Gibbos videos of the Clio 182 that keeps him at bay, gibbo could only take him on the straights.

This is a stupid argument but a Veyron is the fastest standard road car down a 1/4 mile AFAIK and this golf is faster. If you're comparing it to something other than a road car I think you would be limiting the number of people who would appreciate how fast your chosen car is. To compare it to any other road car slower than a Veyron also seems odd.

GT-R otherwise stock but with a tweak to R Mode specifically for 1/4 mile times can beat this (stock is about 11 seconds)... likewise a Veyron modified specifically for 1/4 mile times would no doubt slaughter this. Comparing it to cars not designed specifically for 1/4 mile times is a bit odd but doesn't really bother me.

Most drag strips only start timing when you move off the line. You can start whenever you want !

Err I know. I am telling the tale of another car which would still decimate whatever other car was up the strip even though it had set off a second or two later. That's my point.
