Is the grass greener on the other side (America)??

I've nothing to provide for this thread, i just came in to say i have triple nationality for the UK and hence movement in the EU, the USA, and Brazil. That is all :o.

Given that they're both Doctors I'd assume its quite likely that their employer provides that. ;)

Also if a house can be purchased outright then tis much less to worry about in terms of living expenses. I wouldn't want to live in NYC on such a small sum but if you don't have a mortgage then there will be any number of towns in any number of states to take a look at. Its such a big country and quality of life can very considerably - I'd take a look at a whole bunch of 'best place to live' quality of life survey etc....

Also as Castiel has pointed out - take a look at Canada.

AFAIK visits to ER are often provided for by the state (Though not sure entirely of the details)

I think the US govt actually spends about as much per person on heath care as the UK govt does - only a lot of it is taken up by administrative costs and a greater burden is placed on ER depts due to some people who are uninsured generally waiting until their condition has deteriorated and simpyl visiting the local ER dept.
 
About this Greencard lottery thing, how does it work exactly? I'm an Irish citizen but i was born in Zimbabwe (i don't officially hold zimbabwean citizenship) and i live in the UK.

Would i be eligible?

I got be honest why bother, America is worse then Greece debts wise, and the Yanks are so up themselves, it's not a nice country to live in anymore.
 
Ditto. If someone gave me a golden ticket to live in the US, I'd be sat on the plane with my seatbelt on quicker than you can blink.

The way my own life has unfolded, for many reasons, I hate this country.

All American accents? Do you realise how wide a range of people and accents that encompasses? That's rather like saying saying that all British sound like Glaswegians or at the other end of the scale as if they're from the Home Counties speaking with Received Pronunciation.

They will as good as, scrape you up, make sure you can breath on your own, and then charge you $10k for the pleasure, you may have your broken bones sorted out to a 3rd world equivalent level of health care.

America is a horrible place to live if your not at the very least comfortable, the poverty gap is massive with no help in sight.
 
If you have a good income and can accept the lack of social care in their society then it's fine.

Well said, the health care system sucks here, republicans try to cut needed services to save $$, they up taxes on the none rich & lower taxes/ don't close loopholes in the tax system for the rich. They usually get away with it to, Really over here the gov. (most of it) is like the Mafia.
 
Can money drop the barriers somewhat?

If, for example, you won the euromillions and wanted to live there, can they assess your personal fortune, even if you have no intention of working?

Surely a multi millionaire is beneficial to the country.
 
Yes there is a business owner visa of you invest $1 million or thereabouts and employ 4 US workers.
