I need a fun car in my life.

Should I:-

A, Concentrate on getting my Mini's sorted.
(One ~130-140bhp fast road, other 180bhp+ track car)

B, Buy something cheap and fun (suggestions if so) (£1-£2k and not stoopid insurance)

How old are your Mini's? Might be off on a bit of a tangent here, but have you considered racing your track Mini?

There's a guy who races in the Scottish Saloons & Classics series with an old Mini and he does incredibly well against some stiff competition. It wouldn't take much to get a Mini up to MSA spec for racing if you've already got it set up as a track car. Much less if you're handy with the tools.

If you're looking for weekend fun, might be worth considering. Just a thought.

Mig racing is far far too expensive.

TBH I reckon I'm gonna do track days in the ex-mig at some point.

Just think it may be nice to have something a bit of fun for next summer.

Either that or pull my finger out and get the Clubby sorted out.

You have a 180bhp Mini and are asking for a fun car? Lol.

But if you want something cheap and fun for the road, Clio 172.

Daveski, Begbie and I may be slightly bias though :D

Head is telling me to stick to getting the clubby sorted over the winter then make a start on the track car. (it's out of comission at the moment)

However you've got me interested in the clio. :-)

If you're into your British stuff, either an MG ZS180 (177bhp 2.5 V6) or a 620ti (197bhp 2L turbocharged straight 4).

I've owned 2 620tis, there's a thread on here somewhere. Fantastic value for money, and brilliant for taunting boy racers :D

Missisus old man has a ZS 180 and I don't rate the engine to be honest. It may be a bad one however?

620ti would be a good sleeper but a bit too barge like for me. I'd want something that would be fun in the twisties.

Anyone who mocks an MX-5 simply doesn't know how fun they are to drive, and they're the ones missing out!

I've got a ~280bhp 4WD twin turbo car, and I have more fun driving the 130bhp MX-5! :)

I know what you are saying.

Me and my mate have a drag/track pig Metro with a near 200bhp lump in it. It's stupid rapid however I find the 130bhp Mini much more fun.

Reason I fancy something else fun is cos we are getting shot of the Metro.

Get the Clubby sorted. If you have £2K to spend you should be able to see it back on the road. I spent about that getting all those niggly little end-of-project things sorted on my Anglia. Jobs that would have taken me at least 6 months to do myself took Burnham Autos two weeks to get the car back on the road and MOT'd.

Either a Saxo VTS or a Ph1 172 depending on budget/insurance.

My Saxo was probably the most fun car I have ever owned I.e you can just about get away with going flat out everywhere and very good/entertaining handling. Great cars despite the image. I have never owned a Ph1 172 but did own a 172 Cup which was equally as fun but the extra power means you have to be more reserved as speeds build up rather quickly.

With a 2k budget you are firmly into Phase 2 172 territory.

And if the image doesn't bother you and you fit (unlike me :() MX-5's are also a great shout.

But also in phase 1 172 money, which will get you a cracking well looked after example.
