It's only been 2 weeks since I asked for the best GTX560Ti ^.^ but it seems that I am being given a GTX580 for this x-mas (wish they had told me before), anyway the family member in question is allowing me to pick out the one I want but I need some help to decide on which one I should get.

Of course I am a big fan of low noise as with my choice of case being the Fractal R3 with a H80 fitted with 2 x 1850RPM GT's, 2 x 120mm fans connected to the front 120mm mounts which are both connected to a fan controller. My question is this, which design, reference or aftermarket would dump the least amount of heat into the case while maintaining a decent thermal performance while remaining quiet.

EVGA DS cooler
MSI twin frozr
Gigabyte windforce

Best 3 in terms of cooling and CS^^

For your res, a 3gb card may be wise :)

Just get a reference card, Evga would be my choice, also what resolution monitor do u use ?

+2

Got two reference EVGA 580's in SLI and they are great at blasting the hot air out the back of my case. Idle at 34/36 and max load 72/74 (with modified fan profile in MSI Afterburner).

Any reference card will do the same. The EVGA logo is just there to look epic

It does make for very interesting reading, the difference it seems comes down to between the reference cooler and looking for the Zotac AMP2 version.

You know, really You should be angling for a Voucher towards the next generation cards, they may even go pre-order by Christmas..

As of last week 2560 x 1440 (well this week technically lol)

You DEFINITELY want a 3GB card. I use an EVGA 1.5G on a 30" monitor at 2560x1600 and it really struggles playing BF3 at even medium settings - mostly due to VRAM constraints. Personally I'd wait until next gen - I was going to go for another 580 to go SLI, but the relative cost of it plus the fact that it isn't going to solve my problems with running BF3 totally maxed out at that res has made me decide to wait for Kepler or the AMD 7000 series - depends on what the reviews say when they come out.
