I've always wondered what these signs mean and was hoping you lot could help...

Now, I understand that it means between the hours of 9am - 6pm I can park there for 2 hours but what I don't understand is the 'No return within two hours' part?

The offending sign..

Cheers.

It means you cannot return within 2 hours.

I appreciate this might seem like a sarcy reply but thats what it means. It's pretty self explanatory!

ie once you drive off, you cant park there again within a 2 hour period.

I knew it was a stupid question :p

I thought that it meant that once I park there I'm not allowed to leave for two hours lol. That seemed a bit mental to me hence why I asked.

Must admit, I never actually thought about the idea of driving away and coming back.

Ta :)

It's to stop people from coming back to their cars and moving it 6ft forwards or into a different bay. :)

What i've often wondered is, how far do you have to move before it's considered "not returning"?

I mean, does it cover the whole town/village/city you're in, or just the district, or what? :p

your allowed 2 hours free parking at peak time. Outside of peak hours (ie 9am to 6pm) you can park for free as long as you want.

Obviously some people would see the "2 hours free" and think they can get away with parking there all day by coming back after 2 hours, driving round the block and parking again and getting another 2 hours free.

This sign makes perfectly clear that once you've had your 2 free hours, you can't come back again for another 2 free hours, until you've waited a further 2 hours.

In some busy city centres they do.

I know you'd be very lucky to go 2 hours without seeing a traffic warden in london for example !

How can you not understand that? it's self explanitory

You can park for 2 hours between 9am - 6pm and once you leave you cant return for 2 hours

e.g. if you park there at 9am for 2 hours, you leave at 11am, then you can't park there again until 1pm, simple

seems OcUK manages to harbour a lot of members with a distinct inability to understand basic roadsigns! (not only in this thread)

maybe it's an internet generation thing?
