Antibiotic myths.

I've only used antibiotics once in my life. Had incredibly painful tonsillitis. the first course of penicillin didnt work so I went back for a different type. Worked a charm after a few days but finished the course to make sure. Never even crossed my mind to "save" some. What on earth would I use them for?

Too late to worry the end of the era of antibiotics is well within sight. Get ready for the population crash.

In a few years time - hopefully we will not need antibiotics of any type.

Many research teams are currently breaking down the DNA code of the most common bacteria, and considering how pathetic they are compared to other organisms - it shouldn't be long before we have numerous other ways of targetting specific types & killing them off safely.

Some people don't know that:

1. Drugs have an expiry date
2. That drugs can be specific

Antibiotics for diabetes; it is a bit special isn't it. To be fair, I was undiagnosed at the time and he must have assumed it was some generic infection. Despite not showing any signs of infection, and showing every classic symptom of having diabetes.

Yeah, I never went to that practice ever again.

I seen something on BBC News recently with an expert on Antibiotics saying in 20 years time, the current drugs we currently use will be useless,as the bacteria's are becoming immune.

He also said the major drug companys,ie GlaxoSmithKline need to start work on new drugs for 20 years time.

RTFM people RTFM, it's a sad situation that so many people manage to switch off when they're told to make sure they finish the course :(

Do you do this or do you actually follow your doctors advice, finish the course and thus not have any spare?

GP's are idiots and in the most case don't have a clue, they just see you as another time waster on the conveyor belt of patients they have in front of them and try and get you out the door as soon as possible without taking anything you have to say into consideration.

Your better off self medicating and googling what to do unless you need surgery in most cases.

a load of crap tbh, our bodies are designed to survive, our immune systems will get stronger.

it's all the fat lazy people with bad diets you need to look out for, with their crap immune systems.

My doctor friend told me recently that the elderly self medicating with left over anti biotics actually can do a lot more harm than good to themselves. Specifically he mentioned e-coli colonisation.

The real reason that this is still rife is that many GP's still give said antibiotics out so people with coughs and colds to stop them complaining..

maybe privae GPS do ive not known any nhs ones to give them out in over 10 years its always paracetamol

GP's aren't thick.

You can't be thick and be a Doctor.

the last GP i went and saw didn't have a clue what i was talking about and refused to help.

they are extremely thick, they have zero common sense, they just follow a "script" and make no effort to personalise their service.

i could do a better job with my eyes shut and both hands tied behind my back.

 I'm not sure if you're serious.

I've seen you spout some nonsense on these forums but you've just reached a new height all of your own.

I don't take antibiotics most of the time, I don't even take paracetamol or aspirin. My body will contain super lymphocytes that scientist will want in the future to make new cures from :D In fact, the only thing I put in my body is The Pill and occasionally my inhaler and the occasional strepsil/soother. I've never had the flu and I fight off my yearly cold like a boss.

even some specialists in this county do not know what they are doing, my physio at a NHS hospital, gave me insoles which made my problem worse.

through the use of google and searching, i solved my problem which had me in pain for over 2 years in 2 weeks.

i saw 3 GP's for it, an ortho surgeon (the only one who knew what they were doing) and a physio (half the stuff they said was good the other half bad).

basically google was better than the NHS.
