GTX 580's overheating/How to cool them

I apologise in advance if this is in the wrong place as I'm new to the forums and wasn't sure where to put it.

My problem is that, when playing certain games with max settings, one of my cards tend to overheat (Around 85-90 degrees Celsius) even with the fans going at 100%, whilst the other one stays at a comfortable temp. (60). When looking around for the problem, I noticed that the cards are pretty much sandwiched with the one that's overheating being at the top. Whilst I'm pretty sure that this is the problem, I'm not sure how to remedy it. There's nowhere in the case to move it to, and I'm not exactly sure how I'd go about it; I'm only 13 and not exactly computer literate having ordered this computer.

Any recommendations on how to remedy this?

Is it causing any issues in games? The temperature itself isn't really a problem, though you wouldn't want it any higher.

Get a spotcool ;)

Edit: Also 13 and ordered a rig with two 580's? Paper rounds must have improved since I was that age! :p

Whats your motherboard?

Can you move the cards further apart?

Can you replace TIM between heatsink and GPU?

My motherboard is an ASUS Sabertooth P67, if it would help I could try to move the cards although I haven't checked yet. Sorry, I don't understand the last bit; I'm not exactly computer literate.

The temp fluctuates, sometimes almost reaching 100, and the safe temp for the card is 97 from what I have read so I don't feel comfortable running with those temps.

After looking them up it seems probably the easiest option for me with my limited knowledge. How well would it be able to cool the card?

the obvious answer is to get a side fan attached to the case to get some cool air in between the cards, especially if you have something like the gainward good edition which uses its fans as intakes

I take it the cards are DCUII's or something? as the Sabertooth P67 comes with 3 slot spacing so they shouldn't be sandwiched together if its a reference cooler.

And yes where possible put a fan on the side of the case.

Spotcools from what I've read are especially effective in this situation.

Thermal interface material Or Thermal paste between the physical card and the heatsink fan.

admittadly not in cross-fire

but my GTX480 (non-stock fan ie not one which blew hot air out of case) was overheating a bit

I experimented with a side case fan - blowing in and out - and out - getting that hot GTX480 heat out of the case was the key - not blowing more air in

Another vote for the antec spotcool here,

Or for that matter, if you have a spare case fan, rig it up to blow some air into the cards. Prior to the spotcool i used a fan suspended with string.

If you could get one of the silverstone cases that are rotated 90 degress, so the hot air is
exhausted out of the top of the case, they are perfect for sli systems

I love my ft02, it was a bit expensive though
